The New England Patriots appear to be continuing to explore their options at wide receiver, with things apparently starting to shake out a bit given some of the reports.

The most notable rumor surrounding Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins seems to have the Patriots out of the mix, with the Buffalo Bills emerging as possible suitors.  The Cardinals have continued to have a relatively high price tag for the 30-year old wideout, so anyone hoping to see him playing for Bill Belichick may have to switch gears as things don’t appear promising.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Patriots still have yet to be involved as possible suitors.  “I can’t find anyone in that building who thinks DeAndre Hopkins will be a consideration for Bill Belichick,” wrote Breer in his most recent mailbag.  “And at this point New England hasn’t been in it.”

Meanwhile, the most intriguing player of the bunch continues to be Denver Broncos wideout, Jerry Jeudy.  Adding the 23-year old to the Patriots mix would be a terrific move for New England, as it would add an explosive player to their offense while reuniting him with former Alabama teammate, Mac Jones.

The two were terrific, with Jeudy racking up over 200+ yards in their last game together, which was a win over Michigan.  That outing included an 85-yard touchdown bomb which got Alabama’s scoring started as they rolled to a 35-16 rout over the Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl in 2020.

Bringing the two together here would essentially continue a trend we’ve seen around the league, as both Cincinnati and Miami acquired former college teammates of their quarterbacks.

The Dolphins brought in Jaylen Waddle, while Cincinnati added Ja’Marr Chase, with both having the opportunity to be explosive weapons with their former college quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow, respectively.

Adding Jeudy could potentially have a similar effect in New England alongside Jones, while also giving the Patriots a pretty solid lineup in Jeudy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, and Tyquan Thornton.  Extending him for the long haul would also give this team a pretty good young player to continue building around.

The Patriots reportedly remain in the mix, albeit the Broncos demands remain high enough at this point where nothing has materialized just yet.  Other teams reportedly involved could be the Browns, who seem to be looking to add additional weapons around Deshaun Watson.

However, a report by Tom Pelissero on Thursday revealed that Broncos wideout KJ Hamler recently underwent surgery after suffering a torn pec while training on his own.  His recovery is expected to take 4-6 months, which could change Denver’s desire to move Jeudy.

For now, the rumors will continue to swirl but it doesn’t change the fact that should Jeudy end up in Foxboro, it would certainly be intriguing to see if he and Jones could potentially recreate some of the magic they had back during their college days.
