Following the official announcement of his hiring yesterday, New England Patriots offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien sat down for his first interview and gave his thoughts on the latest chapter of his NFL career.

Conducted by the Patriots’ own media team, O’Brien explained why he chose to return a decade after his first stint under Bill Belichick.

“I’ve had a lot of different experiences, you know, but at the end of the day, the opportunity to come back here presented itself, and it was something I couldn’t pass up,” O’Brien said. “So hope maybe I can bring some of those experiences to the table here and help our football team.”

O’Brien rose up the offensive ranks during his first stint from 2007-2011, culminating in taking over as offensive coordinator in his final year.

During that season, O’Brien coached a top 3 offense in the NFL and helped the Patriots reach Super Bowl XLVI against the New York Giants.

In the years that followed, O’Brien took over the head coaching role at Penn State (2012-2013), and the Houston Texans (2014-2020). O’Brien worked under Nick Saban for the past two years as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.

“I’m looking forward to getting back and working with Bill and working with Bill and doing what’s best for the team,” O’Brien continued. “That’s what this place is all about.”
