After seven seasons in the NFL, tight end Matt LaCosse announced his decision to retire on Tuesday.

An undrafted free agent out of the University of Illinois in 2015, LaCosse went on to play for four teams.

In 2019, LaCosse signed a two-year contract with the Patriots and earned the starting role after Rob Gronkowski announced his first retirement. That season LaCosse recorded 13 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in 11 games. His lone touchdown came in the division-clinching win over the Buffalo Bills that December, Tom Brady’s last win as a Patriot.

By 2020, LaCosse elected to opt out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns and in 2021 only saw action in one game before becoming a free agent this offseason.

During his career, LaCosse recorded 40 receptions for 403 yards and two touchdowns over 34 games and 14 starts between the New York Jets, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, and Patriots.
