Through ten games in 2020, running back Rex Burkhead was in the midst of his most productive season with the Patriots before sustaining a season-ending knee injury in week 11 against the Houston Texans.
Burkhead logged 274 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns to go along with an additional 192 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions prior to his injury.
In week ten against the Baltimore Ravens, Burkhead hauled in a memorable touchdown pass from Jakobi Meyers on a trick play in an upset victory.
On Wednesday, Burkhead shared a video update on his recovery process, showing off his repaired knee moving very well during a workout.
“Grinding, progressing, and drenched in my @teamjackfoundation hat”, Burkhead wrote on Instagram.
Since first signing with the Patriots before the 2017 season, Burkhead has rushed for 1,026 yards and 11 touchdowns in 41 regular season games. In addition to his rushing ability, as a pass catcher, Burkhead has caught 96 receptions for 857 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
Following the Super Bowl, Burkhead will be one of 25 Patriots to hit free agency as his 2018 three-year contract extension expires when the new league year begins March 17th.
Heading into the 2021, Damien Harris, Sony Michel, Brandon Bolden and J.J. Taylor are the running backs currently under contract on the Patriots depth chart.
