Martellus Bennett Reminisces On Super Bowl LI Championship
Greg M. Cooper - USA TODAY Sports
Sometimes you just have to reflect back on one of the best moments of your life, especially if its winning a championship.
On Monday evening, former Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett did just that, tweeting out a reminder to fans that he will always be a Super Bowl champion.
“I’m a Super Bowl Champion just in case some of ya’ll forgot. It was that one that’s considered the greatest comeback in the history of forever Yea I was one of those dudes on that team. It was tite.”, Bennett wrote.

Bennett played a key role in the Patriots run to a fifth Super Bowl title in 2016 after he was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears in March of that year.
Initially the second tight end on the depth chart, Bennett played in all 16 regular season games along with 12 starts. He recorded 55 receptions for 701 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns. In early December, Bennett became the starting tight end for the remainder of the year after Rob Gronkowski was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Bennett filled Gronkowski’s role to near perfection in the playoffs, recording five catches for 62 yards in the Super Bowl LI comeback, and nearly scored the winning touchdown in overtime. In all three postseason games Bennett hauled in 14 receptions for 125 yards.

After a bizarre departure from the Green Bay Packers the following season, Bennett returned to New England for one final Super Bowl run, but would only see action in two games before his own placement on season ending injured reserve due to shoulder and hamstring injuries.
Bennett was released from the Patriots in early March 2018 and announced his retirement later on that month.
Despite the short stint in New England, the memories from that special season continue to be shared by Bennett and his teammates forever.
Now that is tight.
