Richard Seymour Named Finalist For Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2021

For the third consecutive year, former New England Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour has been named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A first round draft pick (sixth overall) by the Patriots in 2001, Seymour spend eight seasons in New England, contributing to four trips to the Super Bowl and three championships. In 2009, Seymour was traded to the Oakland Raiders were he completed his career in 2012.

Over his 12 NFL seasons, Seymour logged 496 total tackles, 57.5 sacks, seven Pro Bowl selections, three first team All Pro honors, and was named a member of the Patriots 50th Anniversary Team, Patriots All 2000’s Team, and the NFL’s All 2000’s Team.

Back in May, Seymour was named the Patriots Hall of Fame 2020 inductee after winning a fan vote, but his enshrinement ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seymour joins 14 additional “modern era” finalists, all of which will be voted on by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee to determine the Class of 2021 on “Selection Saturday”, the day before Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida.

The other 14 finalists for the Class of 2021 include Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, Charles Woodson, Jared Allen, Reggie Wayne, Torry Holt, Leroy Butler, Clay Matthews Jr., Alan Faneca, Tony Boselli, Sam Mills, John Lynch, Ronde Barber, and Zach Thomas.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2021 will be formally revealed on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 during the NFL Honors ceremony and enshrinement celebrations are scheduled to occur on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021 in Canton, Ohio.

Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison did not make the cut after being named a semi-finalist in November.
