Patriots Put Kicker Gostkowski On IR
Jasen Vinlove - USA TODAY Sports
It’s been a tough start to the season for Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who started out last Sunday’s game with another extra point miss during the team’s win over the Bills.
However, it appears they’ll be without him following news by the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride on Wednesday that the veteran will be placed on injured reserve heading into Sunday’s game against Washington.
Gostkowski had made just 11-of-15 extra point attempts so far this season, which had been a frustrating topic of discussion during New England’s first four games. The one miss in Buffalo loomed large, as it was the first time this season where one point could have been the difference against a Bills team that made New England earn every one they put on the scoreboard.
However, oddly enough, Gostkowski had hit 7 of his 8 field goal attempts this season, hitting a perfect 6/6 from 20-39yds, with his one miss coming on a 48-yard attempt in Miami in Week 2.
His loss is certainly a little tougher than many may think as it now leaves the Patriots looking for a replacement. According to reports, they worked out a couple of players, but it now remains quite a big question mark heading into this weekend.
