On Twitter Friday, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman pied himself in the face for a great cause.

Edelman took part in the “pie face challenge” for Gatroparesis Awareness Month.

The challenge was first created by Lynn, MA native and Patriots fan Andrew Belliveau in 2016.

Speaking with Boston’s CBS affiliate WBZ, Belliveau shared what went through his mind when he first saw Edelman’s tweet.

“I mean I was left speechless and I was jumping up and down and just celebrating. Just to see that he took time out of his day and thought about me and the cause, you know? It truly shows how much of a heart he has.”

In previous years, members of the Boston Red Sox and local New England media personalities have participated in the challenge.

Edelman didn’t stop there, he also challenged quarterbacks Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield along with former teammate Danny Amendola to step up and pie themselves next.

For more information or if you would like to help raise awareness, check out Belliveau’s Facebook page or on Twitter.
