The Patriots clearly came into Sunday’s game against the Bills believing they’d have success on the ground, but it’s doubtful they had any idea they’d have two players who would nearly pass the century mark.

Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead carried the workload for New England against the Bills on Sunday, as the Patriots finished the afternoon with 191yds rushing.  Lewis lead the way with 92 yards on 15 carries, while Burkhead finished with 78 yards on 12 carries along with two touchdowns.

Both Lewis and Burkhead reached milestones, with Lewis finishing with a career-best 44yd run, which was also New England’s longest rush of 2017, eclipsing the 31yd rush he had back in Week 5 against the Buccaneers.  Burkhead later matched that previous high after he had a carry of his own of 31-yards, which now ties him with Lewis for the second-longest run of 2017.  It’s also the longest run of his career.

Burkhead played well in Buffalo Sunday.

After the game, Belichick was pleased with what he saw.

“The running game was good for us,” said Belichick, whose team improved to 10-2 on the season.  “We got a lot of plays off tackle, [on] the outside, I thought our the backs ran well and we had good blocking on the perimeter plays.”

It was a hard-fought win, but as usual, there won’t be much time to enjoy it.  The Patriots will need another repeat performance next week, as their next game will see a rematch down in Miami on Monday night football.
