VIDEO: Jimmy Garoppolo Throws His First TD For the 49ers

San Francisco appears to be taking a cautious approach with newcomer Jimmy Garoppolo thus far, with the former Patriot having not seen the field since being acquired from New England.
However, on Sunday he finally got a shot to play after he was inserted into the line-up late in the game against the Seattle Seahawks with just over a minute remaining and trailing 24-6 after starter C.J. Beathard went down with an injury on a 3rd down play.
Garoppolo made two throws, with the first converting a 4th down play to extend the drive, before getting everyone up to the line just in time to get the snap off and move to his left and fire a touchdown strike as time expired.

He finished 2-of-2 for 18 yards, and likely just ignited a firestorm in a city that has been quietly clamoring for him to see action since he got there. The 49ers opted to stick with Beathard thanks to his success before their bye week in a 31-21 win over the Giants. In that game he finished having missed just six passes, completing 19-of-25 for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with an interception.
But on Sunday against the Seahawks, he completed 22-of-38 for 201 yards along with an interception as the 49ers mustered just two field goals prior to Garoppolo’s touchdown.
It’s a tough situation and given they’re 1-10, the 49ers have little to play for with five games remaining. But after the glimpse Garoppolo gave them on Sunday, expect that to be a big topic of discussion out in the Bay Area heading into next weekend when the 49ers travel to Chicago to take on the Bears.
