ICYMI: Martellus Bennett Goes On Twitter Rant About State of the NFL

Since signing on with the New England Patriots back in March, tight end Martellus Bennett hasn’t been afraid to voice his thoughts and opinions publicly, both filtered and unfiltered in interviews or over social media.

Late Monday night, Bennett decided to take to Twitter to share how he felt about the current state of the NFL and its declining television ratings by beginning with what he calls an “oversaturated” market.

Has the NFL oversaturated it's market? Monday. Thursday. And Sunday. There used to be something special about waiting to watch a game.

He then pokes fun at the fact technology now enables fans to watch games in all sorts of ways and notes fantasy football even gets its own shows with nearly as much coverage.

I keep reading that ratings are down of course they are. Lol. You can watch the game on twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, tv, Morse code etc..

Then you have fantasy football as well. Which gets its own coverage just as much as the real games. Hahaha. That's kind of funny actually.

Bennett then comments on the leagues latest venture into expanding its brand through international markets such as the United Kingdom and Mexico with a comparison to Apple.

Trying to expand the global brand of the NFL like the NBA with games in London and Mexico. Lol football isn't even a global sport.

NFL is looking for a place to expand overseas. Hoping for London but that has its issues and doesn't seem very realistic.

Bennett then closed with a rather intriguing comparison to both The Walking Dead and MySpace, does he imply the league is heading in the same direction?

If the Walking Dead came on Monday. Thursday and Sunday. Could you really keep up with a full season?

Its a great product. The game of football that is. But myspace was once a great social media platform. Hahaha.

In the end, regardless of what happens, in a time where social media allows everyone’s voice to be heard, it was a pretty impressive rant from a member of a team that for the most part remains largely quiet under head coach Bill Belichick.
