Prediction:
This game is a classic divisional matchup that features two teams that respect but don’t like each other. When the schedule came out, we circled this one as one of the key games of the year. We had the Jets pegged as a possible playoff team in 2016 but that won’t materialize after a slow start and injuries doomed this season early.
But because it’s a rivalry game, and an opponent each knows well, expect a tough dogfight on Sunday. One key from a Patriots perspective is to start quickly. The Jets are averaging just 17.9 points per game. A couple of quick scores could get them into more of a passing mode where they’ve struggled with Fitzpatrick this season.
But I expect the Jets backs to have a good day, Powell and Forte will be players that keep their offense on the field and keep the Patriots off-balance. But the Pats have Brady and even sans Gronkowski, they have too many weapons for a defense allowing opposing QBs to have a 95.2 passer rating against. It will be close…as usual, but the Pats hold serve and move to 9-2. Patriots 27-21
