Over the past few seasons, it has become an annual New England Patriots team building tradition where everyone attends a movie screening at the local Patriot Place Showcase Cinema de Lux.
This past Sunday night following practice, players and coaches were treated to an early viewing of the new Mark Wahlberg film “Deepwater Horizon” which is about the 2010 oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. What made this most recent trip special, was Wahlberg himself was in attendance and spoke to the team before the film began.
“I know the work you guys put in, the effort, and the commitment it takes to do what you do and what you risk going out there on a daily basis” said Wahlberg.
In the film, Wahlberg plays an electrician named Mike Williams, whom Wahlberg was noted is actually a Patriots fan in real life.
“Mike Williams wanted to say a special thank-you, because even though he lives in Texas, he’s a diehard Patriots fan,” Wahlberg said.
The film hits theaters September 30th.
