If the Patriots end up winning it all in February, it might go down as one of the most remarkable runs in football history given all the losses they’ll have suffered to get there.

Tuesday marked another day of bad news after WEEI reported that runningback LeGarrette Blount is headed to injured reserve following the hip injury he suffered Sunday night out in Houston.

To make matters worse, the team announced Tuesday that Dominique Easley’s season is also over, with the defensive lineman joining Blount on injured reserve after what had been a promising season for the former first round draft choice.

Easley’s injury seemed relatively harmless as it was reported as a “thigh injury” and he was spotted on the sideline riding the stationary bike after he went down.  Unfortunately whatever tests he underwent Monday revealed news that caused the team to decide to end his season.

It marks almost one year from the last time Easley was placed on IR, with the former Florida Gator being placed on IR back on December 17, 2014.

Blount’s loss was somewhat foreshadowed after Mike Reiss reported Tuesday that the veteran running back was seen on crutches, which certainly wasn’t encouraging news and the revelation that his season is over more or less confirms what many had feared.  That leaves the running back situation in the hands of James White and Brandon Bolden over the final three weeks, with both players in need of stepping up in hopes of trying to create some production on the ground while taking the pressure off of quarterback Tom Brady.

In addition, the Patriots signed RB Montee Ball and WR DeAndre Carter to the practice squad, while realeasing both WR Austin Hill and DL Kelcy Quarles from the practice squad.
