When Dion Lewis went down on Sunday it didn’t look good and Monday’s MRI ultimately confirmed what most had feared.
The Boston Globe reported that Lewis suffered a torn ACL on his 3rd quarter 14-yard reception, leaving the Patriots without his services for the remainder of the season.
Initial reports had indicated the Patriots had hoped the veteran back had only suffered a sprain, but Monday’s tests essentially revealed the tear, which is obviously disappointing.
Lewis had been productive, rushing for 234 yards on 49 carries along with 36 catches for 388 yards. He scored four total touchdowns through seven games during his first season in New England.
Now the Patriots will have to spend this week deciding who the next man up will be, with both Bandon Bolden and James White as the likely candidates to fill Lewis’ role.
