RB Jonas Gray Joins Initial Patriots Cuts

As the Patriots continue trying to cut down to the 53-man roster limit this weekend, a surprising name has been added to the list as they continue making some tough decisions.

According to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal, running back Jonas Gray has been cut by the team, which ends a bizarre tenure in New England.

Gray rushed for over 200-yards in his biggest career outing against the Colts back on November 16th, rushing for 201-yards including 4 touchdowns. But from there he only played in three other regular season games after showing up late to the stadium the following week, which saw him get sent home, which seemed to derail him.

To make matters worse, the Patriots brought in LeGarrette Blount after he was released by the Steelers and Blount took over the lead back role, with Gray seeing limited action from there after playing in just three more regular season games over the remainder of the season.

In the playoffs, Gray appeared in just the AFC Championship game carrying 4 times for 4-yards.

This preseason Gray carried 19 times for 107 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry (the highest average among Patriots running backs) and also had a 55-yard touchdown.

UPDATE: Field Yates is reporting that the Patriots are moving on from Gray, but a trade may also be a possibility:

League source: the Patriots are planning to move on from RB Jonas Gray, but don't dismiss the idea that he could be traded still.
