The final spots at the receiver position for the Patriots are still up for grabs, but it looks like there might be one less player competing for one as we head into the final days of training camp.

The Boston Herald reported on Friday that wide receiver Brian Tyms, who has had a strong camp to this point, has suffered a significant injury that may see his 2015 season come to an end before it even got started.

Tyms did travel to West Virginia during the team’s joint practices against the Saints and was present Wednesday but didn’t participate, and he was absent altogether on Thursday.

He was already reportedly dealing with a shoulder injury that sidelined him for a week but this latest injury, of which there haven’t been any definitive details released, apparently may cost him this season and he may be headed to injured reserve.

Tyms caught 5  catches for 82-yards in 2014, including a 43-yard touchdown and seemed poised to earn another shot at improving on that this season.  Unfortunately, now it sounds like he potentially won’t be back on the field until 2016.
