Former Patriot Eaton Fined

ESPN reported on Friday that Former Patriots defensive end Chad Eaton will appeal a $12,500 fine for his hit on San Diego quarterback Doug Flutie in last Sunday’s 13-10 overtime victory over the Chargers.

Eaton slammed Flutie into the ground during the fourth quarter, and the hit resulted in a roughing-the-passer penalty. He felt that a fine on top of that was excessive.

“I went and watched the film again. It’s not intentional,” said Eaton after the Seahawks practiced on Thursday.

“The big thing is, Flutie jumps when he throws the ball. When he jumped, I thought he still had the ball. It wasn’t like I meant to do it. I’m friends with Doug. So I’m going to try and appeal. That’s a lot of money.”

The former New England Patriot was assessed for the fine by the league office on Thursday, and it is the first in his six-year career. He had a quiet game on Sunday otherwise, finishing the game with one solo tackle and one assisted.
