According to Thursday’s New York Daily News, a source familiar with the situation said that Vinny Testaverde took his usual share of snaps during practice on Wednesday, a mere three days after aggravating a pinched nerve that caused shooting pain and numbness in his left arm during Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The veteran quarterback reportedly performed well enough to remain in the starting lineup, and barring a setback before Sunday he is expected to start against the Patriots.
But Jets head coach Al Groh has remained tight-lipped about the situation, refusing to give any details on his quarterback’s status.
“I’m back in the bunker on injuries,” Groh told the NY Times Wednesday. “I’m tired of talking about it.”
But don’t expect that to stop everyone from trying to find out for certain whether or not Testaverde will have his name announced with the rest of the starting lineup on Sunday. In the meantime New England head coach Bill Belichick said on Wednesday that he’ll use Michael Bishop in practice to prepare the Patriots for whatever Jets back-up Ray Lucas may have waiting for them.
