FOOTBALL NOTES (2/28) — Former Patriots tight end Ben Coates is reportedly still interested in playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to the Tampa Bay Online Coates has said the Bucs are the top team on his wish list because it would afford him the chance to play for Dungy. The Bucs have already been active thus far in free agency, and have already added Pro Bowl lineman Randall McDaniel from the Vikings.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out with linebacker Tedy Bruschi now that the team has re-signed wide receiver Troy Brown. Bruschi has been representing himself and rumor has it he is being courted by former Patriots defensive coordinator Steve Sidwell who joined Mike Holmgren in Seattle. Bruschi is reportedly looking for a deal somewhere in the vicinity of $2 or $3-million a year. Unless the Patriots make a move to try and restructure Drew Bledsoe’s contract which currently counts $8-million against the cap, keeping Bruschi may be very difficult. There is also a report claiming that Bledsoe may be looking for a new contract, one with a fairly large signing bonus.
