Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap up

One nugget from Belichick that stood out: In his 33 years coaching in the NFL, he hasn’t been around a center that is better at making line calls than Dan Koppen.

That's kind of a strong statement :)

Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap up

Considering that he's been around guys like Kevin Mawae, that is saying a LOT.

Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap up

That is a VERY strong statement from BB. I love it, giving the grunts some luv too!

Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap up

Koppen is one of the most underrated players on the team.

It seems like O-linemen only get noticed if they are first round picks.

Yah, wadduz he know?
I'd withhold judgment until i heard what
Felger or Guregian think about him.

Or if they screw up... but being a cynic I'll note that had Koppen not recently been re-upped BB would have kept his mouth shut about him so as not to drive up his price.

No doubt Koppen could have also gotten more on the open market - it's smart for BB to be vocally supportive of guys that put team first as well.

Nice work, to have said what he said about Koppen is high praise indeed.

Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap-up

One of the best personnel sequences of the BB/SP regime: drafting Koppen in the 5th round of the '03 draft; then allowing Damien Woody to sign as an UFA with the Lions for stupid money after the '03 season. Position upgrade at considerable savings: it doesn't get much better than that.

funny thing when assembling the list above--Woody wasn't listed as a C on any of the historical rosters (neither was Hochstein)...but Lonie Paxton was...

apparently history is absolving Woody from his snaptastic inadequacies...

Re: Reiss 08/07/07 PC wrap-up

Poor Damien couldn't SHOTGUN-snap
... never mind long-snap.

Before Mike Compton arrived for 2001, who handled shotgun duties in 1999 and 2000? Was it Woody? Heath Irwin? Jason Anderson? Grey Ruegamer?
