I still wonder where the Colts would be today if Jim had fired Vic "matador" Fangio like Irsay demanded. Who knows, maybe a new defensive coordinator may have turned things around and Mora would still be there today.
In any event, Mora refused to fire the guy and was himself fired for his...
Re: Manning pursuing perfection (or NOT!)
Good post.
After losing their #2 wr in week 1, having VERY LITTLE of a running game all year, AND losing their 2nd best player on defense, the Colts needed Peyton to be PERFECT for them to succeed last season. And for 18 games and 2 and a half...
Umm, 98 was Mannings rookie season, as well as Bill Polians first with the Colts. That team was also the remnants of the ATROCIOUS Tobin/Infante era.
In 01, they had one of the worst defenses in NFL HISTORY, while also losing Edgerrin James for the season with a torn ACL.
As for Peyton's...
That game was played in a snowstorm, in the swamp that was Gillette before they went to field turf. The 99 Rams wouldn't have scored 10 points on that field against that defense.
Peyton's definitely had his postseason struggles, I grant you that.....but you people act like the 03-04 Patriots were Gawdawful teams that only beat the Colt's because Manning choked. And thats a load of carp....Those were great teams and, IMO, no team would have beat those teams in Foxboro...
The Colt's played in either one or two deep all night long. Thats why they got ROASTED on the underneath stuff and also why Cassel didn't go deep.
The Pats really should have won this game, minus Belichick's poor coaching and Thomas's personal foul.
Actually, running on 3rd and 12 is usually a good call against this Colt's defense, especially when they're in a dime defense. They are God-awful at defensive tackle and inconsistent at linebacker.
Agreed. If the Pats were unprepared for this, then the Colts are even MORE unprepared, because I'd take Cassel over Sorgi every day of the week and twice on sunday. Sorgi is AWFUL. He has no pocket awareness at ALL and less of an arm than Chad Pennington. Seriously, all they can run when he's in...
Re: Schefter:Brady already took MRI
I hate to see ANYONE get injured, PERIOD. But its even worse when its one of the faces of the entire league like Tom Brady.
I hope and pray that its not serious and that he's back by week 9 for the showdown at the Luke.
Of course, with the way the Colts...
Good stuff....:D......welcome to my sig....
As for Tony, I actually wish he would keep his mouth shut sometimes....but then again, he just gave his opinion......
It could be worse though.....at least he's never been fined for "a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid long-standing...
See, I hear this all the time from Pats fans-"all we heard all week long was how the Colts were gonna come in here and dominate, they were unstoppable, yadah, yadah, yadah...." But thats what the mediots do when they have nothing else to talk about. Its not like the Colts themselves were...
Actually, the stats I posted were FROM that game, played on January 16, 2005. I didn't realize that Ty Law didn't play in that game, though....

Actually, I can only think of 3 times that the Colts played in snow, the 2 against the Patriots and a win at Denver back in 02 or 03, I'm not sure which.
I take it you think the Colts were better in 03 and 04 too?
Nice post Double G.
I just don't understand the part I quoted above-are you saying that the 04 Colt's were better than the 04 Patriots? That Peyton was the ONLY reason the Colts lost that game? Because that would be a curious position for a Pats fan to take.....
Sure, Peyton could have...
No, I blamed the Patriots, you know, when I said "a better team". I also stated my opinion that NO TEAM would have beaten the Pats on that day. If you wanna interpret that as me blaming the weather, be my guest.
Actually, Peyton plays quite well in bad weather, he just didn't on...
Good post. We all have our opinions and I agree that opinions change from season to season. After 06 it swayed towards Peyton, last year, back towards Brady. I think Peyton probably needs to win at least one more Bowl to be considered better than Tom when all is said and done, though(which I'm...
No team, or qb, would have beaten the Pats on their home field, in that weather, that day.
Same as above.
Heh heh, I get a kick out of this argument. He had the most accurate kicker in the history of the league, a guy who hadn't missed all year to that point. He WAS in field goal range...
