Eliot Wolf's Pre-Draft Press Conference (Scheduled for 4/18 - 10AM)

If he's speaking the truth, it's saying that Penix or Nix are on the same level as Maye-Daniels-McCarthy. But at this point, GM's rarely speak the truth.
Have we visited with Rattler at all?
Have we had Nix even for a visit?
I think it’s cap or they are softening up the Fanbase for a trade down then trade back up for one of Pennix Or McCarthy.

Saw Breer earlier pontificating that the main trade candidates are Vikings and Giants. If they traded with the Giants, they could move up or possibly stand pat and still get McCarthy, while also getting additional capital. Depends on if the Vikings were willing to trade up to 4 with Arizona, but I think Arizona will be unwilling to go down to 11 and miss out on Harrison Jr.

You could do something like pick #47 from NYG and a 2025 2nd to go down to 6. Assuming Arizona and the Chargers take WRs and the Vikings don't leapfrog you (I also don't think the Chargers will want to go down to 11, since they're also likely in the WR1 market), you take McCarthy at 6. You'd then still have picks 34, 47 and 68 in a deep tackle/WR class, and an extra 2nd next year, one of which you could flip in a player trade post-draft.

If you trade all the way down to 11 with Minnesota, you'd get a lot more capital but you are probably looking at Penix - although, if the Giants don't want to take McCarthy at 6, then he might still fall to you at 11. Penix is a good consolation prize though. I'd probably take a different prospect at 11 and then target Penix with 23.

Good morning, everyone. Wanted to thank you all for coming. It's been a while since we last had some time together. Also wanted to thank the Krafts for their support. Thank Coach Mayo and his staff.

Transcript is up ... albeit, you couldn't hear many of the questions in this one:

On the one hand, it wasn't the current Giants staff that picked Daniel Jones, but it is the current Giants staff who signed him to a big contract, so they are not actually experts in figuring out what should be done. They are the type of people you take advantage of.

That being said, the Patriots have no track record here either. If the Giants trade up and land Maye and he becomes a Josh Allen type, while JJ McCarthy flubs, good luck telling your fans that you did it for a 2nd rounder and a future 2nd.

Saying you’re open to trades doesn’t mean you’re truly “open” to a trade.

Wolf and the staff may want a level of capital that teams won’t be willing to give up.

Yeah, you're just blowing smoke (consistently) to keep all options open until you are out of time while on Pick #3's clock.

Is a 2nd round pick enough compensation to take the chance of being jumped by another team for McCarthy?

I’ll do it for the Giants’ 2025 #1.

OK, I see you mentioned two #2s from the Giants.

There is no way JJ slides to #11.

It may also be a matter of - their trade partners may vary depending on who is available at 3. If Washington takes Daniels, only some teams may want Maye. If Washington takes Maye, only some teams may want Daniels.

Depends on how they value a future 1st vs. a 2nd this year in a class whose prospects they already know are available. As far as trade charts go, both picks are equal, since future picks are valued as one round less.

If they did get jumped by someone else for McCarthy, they would be able to take Nabers or Odunze - whichever they like more. Then they'd have picks 34, 47, 68 and 103 with which they could maneuver for Penix. With 4 teams taking QBs ahead of them, they may not have too many competitors for Penix - Raiders and Broncos perhaps.

I think patriots should stay put in the 1st and move down in the second and third for more mid round picks.

Extra picks are great but don’t sacrifice a franchise Qb.
Maybe someone would be willing to take our second for a third and fourth.

An extra 2nd or high 3rd in this years draft would make such a difference.

Just thought of a funny concept too, where the Pats trade down from 3 to 6 with the Giants in exchange for pick 47 and a 2025 2nd rounder, the Giants take Maye, and then at the 6th pick instead of taking McCarthy, they trade down again with Minnesota and send 6 and 103 in exchange for picks 11 and 23. They'd then have picks 11, 23, 34, 47 and 68, which are five high picks right in the meatiest part of the draft, and also an extra 2nd next year.

If I trade down I don’t trade down past 6.
I can still get one of the top 3 QBs there.

We could certainly fix WR OL and draft one of Nix or Pennix.
I guess it’s about what our staff thinks of these QBs.
Isn’t it weird we’ve shown little to no interest in Nix?

Maybe we are hoping to grab him in the mid second.
