If you were Bill, the first 3 things you would do this offseason are...?

They don’t get it. BB is the greatest GM in the history of the League. I keep asking people to name 5 better GMs, so that we can check out their record and how they’ve fared. I’d be happy to compare and contrast. Crickets.
Ozzie Newsome, Kevin Colbert, Bill Walsh. They all were pretty good GM's.

You have to figure out the QB situation first. There is no answer in the draft, unless somehow you can pry Lawrence away from Jacksonville.

Do you really think the QBs in this draft are all trash aside from Lawrence?

Brady covered up for a ton of mistakes over the years. No question BB has more good than bad over the last 20 years (Except WR which he has a horrendous track record) but he has been absolutely terrible the past 5 years and is the reason why this team is where it is. At some point he either needs to stop being the GM or bring in better scouts to help him.
Every single year BB the GM has to make multiple roster decisions that impact the team. The last 5 years include 2 Super Bowl championships and a close Super Bowl loss. Impossible to have been "absolutely terrible" with those results. Who he kept and let go were huge in that success. He certainly missed on some draft picks, the AB and Sunu moves and that along with the cap has forced them into a rebuild. The fact he was able to maneuver around the cap for so many years and stay on top of the league has given many fans an unrealistic perspective on how difficult it is. Think about all the players that the Patriots have lost due to cap reasons the last several years that are still playing at a high level:

Signed monster contracts:
Chandler Jones Trey Flowers, Nate Solder, Trent Brown, Tom Brady

Big Contracts:
Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy , Malcom Butler, Logan Ryan

The only notable FA they brought in was Gilmore. If there was no salary cap the Pats would be fighting the Chiefs for a bye but that is not that way it is. He's had to continually replenish talent with limited draft resources and a tight cap of late. He decided to bite the bullet and deal with it this year and fortunately the Pats are in an enviable position of having a ton of dollars to spend. We'll see if it ultimately works out but this BB is a terrible GM narrative is absolute garbage.

A 2018 GM example: Trades 95th pick for Trent Brown and the 143rd pick. Brown has a brilliant year for Patriots and is instrumental in helping them win the Super Bowl. (doubt they win it w/o him) Brown leaves and signs a mega deal - Patriots recoup 3rd round comp pick for signing.

  1. Sign a bridge QB so you don't have to reach for a QB in the draft; wait until 2022 draft if need be (hopefully not though).
The issue with this is that the most likely outcome is that the Patriots will have a later draft pick than they do this year, making it even harder to get a QB.

Kontra, been going back and forth trying to decide which I think is more of a need( they both are) a DT or edge rusher/DE.....you think DT is easier to fill via the draft? Usually the passing rushers go top 7. I'd like to get someone like Watt from Pitt who can get pressure on the qb...
Yes. There are a few that I like. A true two-gapping NT would actually free up guys like Wino while preventing guards from routinely getting to the next level and putting a hat on our backers against the run. It’s the 1B need to the quarterback’s 1A for this team. The run defense needs to be fixed in order for the team to concentrate on pass rushers.

Bill O'Brien lost us the 2011 Super Bowl. I can't say Josh has ever lost us a Super Bowl--unless he was coordinating the defense in '17.

Actually McDaniels joined in the playoffs. O'Brien was on his way to Houston basically. That 2011 superbowl game plan was McDaniels. There were articles about it.

resign guy , andrews, white, and butler. tender jcj

Qb -id do whatever i can to land one of the top prospects. Should only have to move up a few spots. Im not too fond of any fa unless stafford becomes available for reasonable trade. Was interested in trubisky but his price will probably be way up now if Chicago even lets him walk. This year was fine neglecting qb since it was a lost year but we have to make a serious attempt next year.

De, dt, lb , - in any order if they are there in the next rounds, otherwise fa. If Gilmore is back, our secondary is top notch again and defense could be dominant with front 7 help.

wr/te- i feel like there will be alot on the bargain bin this year with the cap restraints. And we haven’t hit on either position in 10 years via draft.

cb- sure we will nab a udfa and if not , another low key fa to upgrade jmc

  1. Build and kindle a funeral pyre on VIII Rings
  2. Set course for the sunset
  3. Lie down with a nice, tangy glass of OJ
I kid, I kid!!!! :p

Josh lost 2007 with his reluctance to go away from the long passing game until midway through the third quarter.

Maybe. But we never had them. In fact, they controlled the LOS all day. Never a point when we dominated them the way we did in 2011. Giants were even quoted as thinking they couldn't stop us in '11.

The game plan was great. We drove on the Giants all game.

The problem I have is the play calling on that drive where we had the game won.

If you get a chance, can you send me some names(either pm me or this thread will work). Since we'll be relying on this draft and f/a big time this year, would love to pick your brain on some prospects...I'll be spending a lot of time in the draft board this offseason as well.

Do you not at least acknowledge that Bill's drafts have been shyte - with an occasional Collins/Ryan, Flowers, Thuney, Harris, Onwenu - since after the first round of 2012? And even before then there were doomed-from-the-start picks within/near the top 100 such as Glas IR Dowling, Germy Cunnyham, Busto Brace, Terry Wheatley, Chicken Legs Crable, Kevin O'Connell, Stomper Meriweather, Guss Scott, Dexter Reid, Bethel Johnson, Brock Williams, Kenyatta Jones...

1. Fire bill the GM.
2. Burn the WR/DB scouting manual
3. Hire scouts from steelers and chiefs

Treat 2021 as a foundation year with playoffs being ultimate goal and 2022 goals around superbowl contention year.

Figure out which rookies or sophomores are keepers . Continue with stidham or any other low cost qb as option for 2021.

Hire high potential low cost free agents who are cap casualty without burning all cap dollars. Have buffer build up for 2022.

Draft pass rusher , WR and athletic linebacker in first two rounds. Focus on team getting younger .

Our goal should be to get the rookies and second year players get as much playing time.

Take the best available players at respective draft position as opposed to need based drafting.

If we don't get wilson , trade back and get 3 drafts between 25-45.

Double dip on wide receivers (speedsters) in middle rounds .

Trade Gilmore for a 2022 first rounder and possibly a 2021 fourth ROUND.

Sign game manager qb for 10 million if we are completely down on stidham.

1. Complete and total overhaul of personnel department. I want to see new faces and new approaches when it comes to player acquisitions, especially in the draft (no more trade downs for additional sixth round picks, no more off the board prospects in second round, no more STers in the draft);

2. Get a TE and WR in free agency. BB cannot be trusted to draft offensive playmakers, so let's just not bang our head against that wall any more and go with HIGH QUALITY free agents (no more second, third, ninth tier guys who are training camp bodies only) for these positions;

3. Get a veteran QB who can manage a game, maybe someone like Fitzpatrick

patsfan- if/when @KontradictioN sends me over some names and prospects, I will share with you. I think there are a lot of Pat fans that will want to get familiar with some names this offseason. I know we're early in the process, but it will be good to get to know a few.
