It's called negotiating. I'm guessing they'll agree on 3-5 years

I don't get it. How can they Change this year's cap ?? It's way too close to the season

I am not sure. It would totally tank the season if they did it. Florio seems to think the CBA prevents this from happening this season but in the end it is the owners money.

Teams have to plan free agency and the draft based on incoming cap number. I feel like it's insane if the cap can change 2 months before opening day ????

I think everything is up in the air right now because of the pandemic. One thing is for sure - the owners want their money back for losses right now not years from now. This is a real bummer and reminds me of the MLB nonsense. I get it though. It is a big revenue loss.

I really doubt there's a season due to politics/media pressure. Depending on how the NBA does, the bubble may be the only solution.

Yeah, If I was the owners I would just cancel the season, The players union can't do anything about it, next spring the owners will be able to get whatever concessions they want from the union.

What is the best way to help the Golden Boy Kermit? That will be your answer.

I think the proposal the NFL wants is to straight up reduce players' salaries this year by $40 million per team. So it would not be a case of merely reducing the cap $40 million, which would put every team over the cap, which would lead to massive amount of cutting players.

Needless to say, they would need the Union to go along with such a proposal.

There is a CBA in place for the next 10 years. You aren't going to get terribly many concessions since the agreement is in place if they cancelled the season.

Count me in as the NFL not having a season. The offense huddles up and a player infects another player and it is the domino effect. Previously, players were monitored (Gordon) and still got into trouble. Now, we are controlling a team without supervision and none will get the virus?

This is terrible news if it comes to pass. Apparently the owners want all of the losses from Covid to be absorbed THIS season and next. $40 mil could come off the cap this year.

I believe that the CBA agreement would have few reductions in this season and the majority next season, per the agreement. Players in their last year might support this view. Other players would want the costs spread out. The open question is how many years will be agreed to by the players and the teams.

Well to be fair no one is addicted to coronavirus :haha:

Media/political pressure vs. the NFL’s wallet pressure. (For Owners and players)

I think this battle is much closer than people realize.

18 game season for one.

I see. So if they shrink the cap X% everyone's salaries for the season also shrink X%. Only way that it would be possible.

Or, you know, the pandemic and rates of infection/hospitalizations/deaths that are all trending in the wrong direction.

Im not sure how that works with signing bonues.

Say player 1 has a 1yr deal with a $11m salary.
Player 2 has a 1 year deal with $10m signing bonus, already paid, and $1m salary.

If they shrink the cap be say 30% does player 2 lose only 300,000 while player 1 loses $3.3m?

Lets just say if I am player 1 I would be rather pissed.

I agree with what you say above. I think signing bonuses should be untouched.
