Pats averaged 12.2 regular season wins during the 9 season drought, made the AFCCG 5 times, won the AFCE 8 out of 9, won the AFC and made the SB twice. Pretty successful drought.

It is hard to believe that this amazing Patriot run with Belichick and Brady, with all those Lombardis, all the GOAT talk, and all the glory, actually included a ten year drought in the middle. And that the run is still going on.

Our title droughts ranked since 2001

1. 9 Seasons - 2005 through 2013
2. three way tie at 1 season (2002, 2015, 2017)

Kind of cooked.

2005-2013

05- Bruschi had the stroke. Still scarred by AFCD loss in DEN.
06-AFCCG loss Indy
07- 18-1
08- TB12 IR
09- Unlikeable team
10- Lost to the Jets
11- Lost to the Giants
12- Lost to BAL
13- AH

2007-2013

That “long” spell was the most challenging, especially for the missed opportunities. I remember thinking 2014 was the last hurrah and being so glad they snagged another one.

Little did I know, they were just revving up another mini dynasty !

2005-2014 would have to be the correct answer here. There were some stunning losses in there (SB 42 & Jets fiasco). Five years ago it appeared they were never going to win another one. Since then:

5 straight AFC title games
3-1 SB record
Brady NFL MVP. 2X SB MVP.

Brady already cemented a hall of fame career on September 16th 2014. Fast forward five years and he cemented another hall of fame career.

The other teams kind of pulled their weight during that lull

Sox 2 titles
Celts 1 title, 2 appearances
Bruins 1 title

That 2005 loss involved watching the game at 3:30 am in Bahrain while deployed. The first time I had to ever set an alarm clock to watch a football game (and given the painful game, likely the last).

Still less damaged by that than losing to the forehead in 2006 and watching the Dolts win the title against against a weak Bears team.

I agree 2009 was a lame season (spoiled to say that with a 10-6 record, as many fan bases would kill for that and appearing in a playoff game). There was little chance of doing anything during that locker room uprising.

Besides SB 42/46, the obvious missed opportunities were the 06/07 AFCC at the Dolts and 10/11 Divisional game vs the Jets.

I picked 2002 because then NE would have won 4 in a row which would have been amazing. Plus it would have meant Brady would have started 12-0 in the playoffs.
Second place is the 2005-2013 drought.

05-13, although the "the Pats are falling apart and no one has fun there" garbage after SB52 was incredibly annoying.

we've been SO strong a run that it is hard to believe we have only repeated once.
