INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 22, 2006) -- The Indianapolis Colts likely will sign kicker Martin Gramatica for their Week 3 game against Jacksonville as a possible replacement for Adam Vinatieri, who is nursing a groin injury and has not practiced all week.

Gramatica tried out with the Colts on Sept. 20. Although he was not signed after the workout, coach Tony Dungy said Sept. 22 the team was leaning toward signing Gramatica, at least for kickoffs.

"He may do everything," Dungy said. It would be Gramatica's second stint with the Colts and his third with Dungy, who coached Gramatica at Tampa Bay before he became the Colts coach in 2002.

Gramatica, who played his first six seasons in the NFL with the Buccaneers,
signed with Indianapolis in December 2004, a week after he was cut by Tampa Bay. He was used for kickoffs in the Colts' final four regular-season games and one playoff game.
A decision on whether Vinatieri plays will come at game time

The Indianapolis Colts have signed PK Martin Gramatica (Patriots). Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Gramatica will handle the kickoffs for Week 3 due to PK Adam Vinatieri (groin) suffering from a groin injury.

Indianapolis Colts PK Adam Vinatieri (groin) missed practice Friday, Sept. 22, but will handle field goals and extra points in Week 3. Newly signed PK Martin Gramatica will handle kickoffs.

Polian is cursed. He's like Sysiphus, rolling a ball up a hill in hell but never getting to the top. Poor bastard...:D

Adam was overpaid when he was handling all the kicking duties. Now he's just doing field goals and extra points. Talk about a rip off.

Perhaps this is blasphemy given the team involved, but I'm glad for Gramatica. He worked hard and had a solid camp, it seemed clear that he deserved a job in the league.

BB outsmarted Polian??

what else is new?

No blasphemy, Indy is welcome to give a job to any ex-Pat they like, I don't mind guys who worked hard and just missed the cut off drawing a paycheck - now the fun part comes when Indy has to IR AV...:p

Personally I don't want to see him on the IR, my dream scenario would be to meet him in playoff and Gost kick the winning FG while he misses one for the Colts.

Bingo! We have Bingo!

I've said it before.

Polian is hell bent on finding ANY ex Patriot in whatever way.

We can ofcourse mix a couple Peyton INTs in with that, correct?

Klecko is now a member of the Axis of Evil, but he gets Papal dispensation because he was cut by the Pats and REALLY needs to "feed his family".

I'd jump on this bandwagon but since Gramatica has generally been our shadow roster PK, I don't want to jinx us and see Gostowski have a bad game

I just saw on ESPNNEWS that AV is out for the next game, so it looks like Grammatica is going to handle all the kicking duties.

My issue with the Colts has always been that they don't understand what it takes to win; so putting them in the same category as the Steelers and Broncos is giving them way too much credit. Complete postseason ineptitude has no business in the same Axis as three recent Super Bown wins (I know that the Broncos have changed a lot since their two, but they have the same coach). If we can't tell the difference between regular season stats & championships, and don't respect teams that know how to win, than we're no better than Peyton.

Axis of Asses, maybe. Evil? No way.

Pats fans' hatred of the Dolts comes from the fact that no matter how many imes they fu-- up in the playoffs they still receive a never ending stream of love and support from the media. We have to listen to how great they are from the national pundits every year despite accomplishing nothing of any real importance.

By the way Shears, what's with the picture of Beisel?

Bingo! Exactly right! And I'll never understand it. Unless of course you assume that 99% of the media "pundits" are morons Then it's perfectly understandable.

If Gramatica comes into a game in place of Vinatieri and misses a FG, the irony will be complete... and utterly historic in scale.

Realize, though, that each game Vinatieri misses hurts the Pats, because we'll get a worse Compensatory Pick.
