I was disappointed when Bam got cut the first time around, and now disappointed again ESPECIALLY with the news of Deion's departure. Anyone else left scratching their heads.

I think this guy is a scrappy player who showed a lot of promise in the preseason. He reminds me of a Troy Brown in his early years.

I would rather take a flyer on this guy than a Jonathan Smith.

While he is scrappy I don't think he has the tools to create seperation on a consistent basis.

And John Smith is a specialist/kick returner

Give him a chance to clear waivers.

I do like Childress myself - the answer to why Smith over Childress, I imagine would be special teams. Our returns were dreadful again last Sunday. Unless Andrews can help there - and he looked only average in preseason - Smith has a shot to make an impact on returns.

yes...I am scratching my head.....personally I like what I have seen out of Bam this year...obviously BB doesn't or will "pick him up again later"...not sure what his plan is........but.....IN BB WE TRUST!

......and if I recall correctly, Bam can play a little DB too. (hopefully we won't need to get to that point this year though)

He was cut because we can. Pats management loves inflicting the maximum pain on hapless players just to get their jollies. They must be subjugated and humiliated on the field and in public.

Can I have my own radio show now please?

A 'fringe' player posting decent numbers in pre-season hardly equates to a permanant spot on the 53 man roster.

Bam will be back on the practice squad the instant he clears waivers.

Basically a short WR has to grab his chance in a huge way or it will evaporate instantly.

He made no catches. A 6'2" Bam could get away with that for months.

Good observation.

Let's remember that Troy Brown played roster roulette before becomming a super contributor.

Maybe because he is not an NFL-caliber receiver?

And you think Reche Caldwell and Doug Gabriel are NFL-Calibre WRs?

Invest the same NFL game time into Bam Childress and he will be significantly better than either of them.

Which can also serve as an explanation why Bam also clears waivers again and again.

To me, the most likely explanation of the roster ping-pong is:
- Smith was signed primarily as a returner
- Once the team realized that Gabriel and Jackson would both be out for the Buffalo game (and Maroney and Andrews in), they needed another receiver a lot more than a returner
- Gabriel and Jackson are probable for this weekend, so we're back to the returner plan

If this is true, it bodes well for both the receiver and return positions against the Jets....

Yes.

They are both better than Childress, Gabriel in particular.

They will both be better than Childress this season, and probably in the future as well.

Bam was on the roster for week 1 because we needed true WRs that knew the system since two weren't ready to play. Even then we saw RBs and TEs playing WR in Bam's place, with Faulk nabbing a great grab in the endzone.

With Gabriel and Jackson close to returning, and Faulk's ability to split wide, Bam is no longer needed. That final WR spot would need to have ST value as well with Gabriel and Jackson taking Bam's true WR role. Bam doesn't play ST well. Smith does. Smith in, Bam out.

I do hope he hits the PS.

Bam and Reche both played in the same exact game last week. Bam had zero catches. Reche had two. And Childress is better why?

I assume that the reason that Bam was released, is that one or both of Gabriel and Jackson will be activated for the jest game.

The sooner that both are on the 45, the better we all can evaluate the true state of our WR corps.

Well he didn't get any playing time at Ohio State. What is it that you see that Professionals in College and the NFL don't?

I'm not against the guy, but any success Bam might have is speculation at this point.

Good grief.

How many reps does Childress have in a the base offense in NFL games?

How many reps does Reche Caldwell have in a base offense in NFL games?

Caldwell's performance is the usual for him - well below reasonable expectations.

He's a floater - a turd who somehow evades the final flush.

Bam's performance is fairly typical for a player of his experience. Greg Jennings got a catch at the very end of the Packers game. That after an excellent preseason performance, and exactly what would be reasonably expected of a player with his NFL game experience in the base offense.

Watch Oakland play - if you can stand it. John Madden gushes over Gabriel for a few seconds, and then he stinks up the rest of the reel. He is extremely inconsistent.
