What qbs would you take cassel over right now, so for the current and the future of your franchise (not just one of the two, but the combination)
Id say:

Favre
Pennington
Edwards

Big ben-close
Brady quinn
(not flacco)
(not palmer)

(not manning)
Kerry Collins
David Garrard
Matt schaub-close

(not jay cutler)
Tyler thigpen
(not Philip rivers)
Jamarcus russel (seventh rounder over a number 1 overall pick lol)

(not eli)
Donovan mcnabb
Jason Campbell
(not tony romo)

(not aaron Rodgers)
Tarvaris Jackson
Jon kitna
Kyle Orton

Jake delhomme
(not matt ryan)
(not drew brees)
Jeff Garcia

Kurt warner/matt leinart (lol)
Matt hasselbeck
Shaun hill
Marc bulger

WOW, so if I were 21 of the other 31 teams I would rather have cassel at the helm
That’s amazing
I knew I’d pick him over a lot of guys starting right now, but didn’t realize it was that many

I'd take him over Romo.....guy can't win in December or January.

Based on age and intangibles, if I was picking from all those guys for the Pats only Brady could win out the fight.

For the future, it's hard to argue any of those except Big Ben. Replace him with Romo who is proving to be a fraud.

But not every team is looking for a QB of the future. Teams like Arizona, Miami and Carolina for example I'm sure are happy as can be with their QB situation for the present.

I think McNabb has some good years left, I would take him over Cassel. I would have Cassel and Quinn in a tie. Quinn has proved nothing and is reputed to not be a great accuracy passer which, surprisingly, ended up being a great strength of Cassel.

I'd take McNabb over Cassel as well and would easily take Cassel over Romo.

I disagree with Big Ben being close, other than that there's not too many you can argue about. Although, you could make the point that Cassel has better weapons than almost every other QB on that list (the Cardinals being the closest). To play devil's advocate - what would Donovan McNabb look like if he were throwing to Moss & Welker?

Also, there's a difference between what QB would you prefer and what team has such a deficiency in their QB play that they'd be willing to part ways with draft picks for Cassel AND sign him to a monster contract. (The Redskins with Jason Campbell being a good example - you could argue that Cassel might be an upgrade, but is he worth the picks and the increased salary cap hit with Cassel's new deal?)

I'd take him over Romo.....guy can't win in December or January.

To be fair, Cassel hasn't even played in a playoff game, so who knows what he would do against a tough D on the road in January.

No but Romo is 5-8 in December so the jury is back on him until he starts to prove otherwise. At worst Cassel is an unknown in this area but he showed nothing to suggest that anything will bother him.

Only one quibble . Tony Romo has worn out his welcome in Dallas. Add him to the list.

I agree with the McNabb-ites. Other than that, not a bad analysis. However, Big Ben, if he keeps getting these head injuries, may be arguable.

I'd take him over Romo is a second. Romo is a fraud.

I would take Cassel over Kitna, Jackson, Delhomme, Hasselbeck, Russell, Thigpen, Garrard and Kerry Collins.

What is so much better about those players over Cassel? Other than those teams not wanting to mess with their team... is that it?

I'd take McNabbb and Ben and probably Bulger over him. Romo is close, but I think I'd take Cassel... assuming he isn't a playoff choke like Romo.

Edit: and I'd take a healthy Hasselbeck, but that isn't really plausible.

(not Tom Brady) :D

Cassel > Aaron Rogers

I would absolutely take these guys ahead of Cassel without hesitation:

Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Drew Brees
Donovan McNabb
Eli Manning
Philip Rivers
Matt Ryan

Let me think about it:

Aaron Rodgers
Jay Cutler
Chad Pennington
Ben Roethlisberger
Tony Romo

Everyone else, no thanks. I'd have taken Palmer, Hasselbeck, or Delhomme three years ago, not now. Not convinced that Flacco or Schaub would make the team better than it would with Cassel, Quinn is an intriguing prospect but haven't seen enough of him, and I'm flat out not interested in anyone else.

What bothers me about McNabb is how anxious he gets running the 2 minute offense. I know he was sick in the Super Bowl, but he's managed the clock horribly other times as well.

I think it'd be easier to answer who I'd take over Cassel. :)

NE: No offense, Matt, but I'd take a healthy Brady :)
AFC East (excluding NE): nobody
AFC North: nobody (I'd have said Big Ben before he tried to use his face as an airbag v. a Volvo)
AFC South: I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'd take Satan Manning over Cassel (but I'd have to redesign the uniforms if he were coming to the NEP--I refuse to even contemplate the concept of Satan in the same jersey as #12).
AFC West: I'd hold my nose and take Philip Rivers.

NFC East: nobody (I don't want McNabb in the 4Q of a close game, I don't want Romo after Thanksgiving, and Eli-Eli-Oh #$@# isn't a clear upgrade)
NFC North:
NFC South: I'd take Brees. (That other Matt is good, but not a clear upgrade.)
NFC West:

Pennington's done a stellar job this year without any real star wideouts ..
