The Patriots have apparently opted to bring in a veteran receiver, with Field Yates of ESPN Boston reporting that the team has signed veteran Austin Collie.
Collie was reportedly in Foxboro Thursday morning and was on the practice field, with reporters pointing out via Twitter that he's wearing #10. Collie had recently visited San Diego but didn't sign with the Chargers, and it appears that Bill Belichick has decided to give him an opportunity to potentially earn a role here in New England.
It's been a rough road for Collie, who was with the 49ers during the preseason but was cut at the end of training camp. The veteran has battled concussions in recent years, suffering his third one against the Steelers during the preseason last year before later rupturing the patellar tendon in his right knee three games into the regular season. After seeing him during camp this year, according to reports out of San Francisco, Collie wasn't back to form during his comeback bid. The good news is he's managed to remain determined and the fact he made it through camp healthy was certainly a positive.
He was upbeat after being released:
No worries. The #comeback train isn't stoppin. Was a great opportunity 4 me to get back into playin shape & get my knee/body ready 4 season.

Now the question will be what role he'll take on here in New England.
