Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reported on Saturday that linebacker Tyrone McKenzie has asked for his release.
According to Reiss New England granted his request to be released off of the practice squad, as McKenzie wanted to be free to pursue other opportunities.
McKenzie was taken in the 3rd round of the 2009 draft, but tore his ACL during minicamp that year. He spent all of that year on injured reserve, and failed to break into the line-up this year despite having a strong training camp early on.
He was waived back on September 5th before spending this season on the practice squad.
