The New England Patriots defeated the Cleveland Browns 27-26 Sunday afternoon.
New England started slow, playing some of their worst football of the season, but scored two touchdowns in the final minute (1:01) of play to win the game. Rob Gronkowski's knee injury, which some believe could force him to miss the rest of the season, overshadowed another great comeback win by the Patriots.
Tom Brady passed for 418 yards, the only quarterback to surpass the 300-yard mark against the Browns defense in 2013. Since 2001, the Pats are 47-6 in the month of December.
Here is my player of the game. --
Shane Vereen: There's plenty to discuss after a game like Sunday's, but Vereen's performance kept the Patriots comeback hopes alive. The third-year tailback had only nine yards rushing, including a six yard scamper into the endzone, but had 12 catches for 153 yards along with it.
The Patriots team account tweeted this shortly after the game:
Shane Vereen set new Patriots RB records for receptions (12) & receiving yards (153) today.— New England Patriots (@Patriots) December 8, 2013
Vereen was a key player, mostly in the passing game. His role will be crucial in New England's offense moving forwarded, which is highlighted after the Gronk injury.
After the game Vereen said, "We're not done until the clock says :00. Down, but never out. When you've got Tom as your QB, you've always got a shot."
