MORSE: 15 Observations – Patriots Are A Very Bad Team
Mark Morse
Back when the NFL schedule was first released, I predicted this would be a bad team. I only gave them 6 wins on the season. I was wrong, this is a very bad team.

Items 11 & 12 are especially notable... If things don't go well next weekend, the flight home will feel like it will never end...

The non call of the blatant face guarding, Zolak was going nuts about it on the radio, on Pop Douglas right in front of that (female?) referee was laughably egregious.

It’s a good think Douglas didn’t suffer injury on that play.

Will this ref be fired or reprimanded? It’s a level of incompetence that at this level should not be tolerated.

Face mask. Face guarding is legal. Has been for a long time now.

That Bills win bought them a bit more time but that time is vanishing quickly. We already have guys prone to attitude issues and that have been known to make business decisions. I am waiting for that late season IR list to end up full of veterans who check out.

12) Bill Belichick said this week that Kayshon Boutte had his best week of practice. So he was inactive again this week.

As a big Bill defender, he never said Boutte had a good week of practice. If all Boutte's practice weeks have been ****, a not so ****ty week would be his best.

The best was the offsides called on Mack Wilson rushing the punter. Replay showed he was not offsides.

Clearly Wilson moved forward before the snap. There was NO ONE from the NEP at the line. They were rushing 6 in a return / safe formation. Terrible teams whine about the refs, not just the very bad.

Well if Bill is keeping a player who practices like **** every week then what is Bill doing?

It's been obvious from the start that the offense would, as the euphemism goes, "struggle" this year. We reposed a lot of hope in the defense, hoping the D could "carry the team." We had an elite defense, so went the tale.

We don't. If you look a little into the stats, they are -what? - mediocre? They look sloppy and ill-coached. Their funadamentals blow: either they have not been well-taught, or they just don't care. Maybe on a failing team a player's own physical well-being trumps a player's responsibility to get the damned ball carrier on the ground.

The stats: Total yards: 22nd, Total points: 28th, Pass yards: 25th.

This is indeed a "very bad" team, and, contrary to our hopes early on, the D plays a role in that dismal standing.

Bill, when asked in his post-game press conference was asked that he was quoted as Boutte having his best practice of the year and Belichick confirmed it.

The bullcrap responses that the best players played, then why is Boutte even on the roster? Belichick has been punishing Boutte because he didn't get two feet in bound, in his 1st game and cost him a win. A rookie mistake. Are you telling me that Boutte isn't better than Jalen Reagor (1 catch on 6 targets)? Stop apologizing for Bill Belichick.
