This seems something like an outlier—it's a rare event even in high-speed motor vehicle accidents, but it should give us pause.

For all that many people complain about the NFL becoming glorified flag football, the game does need to be made safer if it's going to be viable long-term. The question is how to make it safer while preserving as much of the current game as possible.
 
What a scary thing. These men are built and trained to run and hit so fast and hard. There's no doubt how tough you have to be to play in the NFL and that should be remembered when fans get on players for not getting on the field fast enough or performing at 100% when they're dealing with injuries. I just hope more players take their head injuries seriously but I also understand why they don't disclose them.
