Here are the details of the contracts signed by running backs Sammy Morris and Heath Evans with the Patriots:

Morris received a four-year, $7 million deal, according to NFL Players Association documents. Morris has base salaries of $900,000 in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. He received a $1.5 million signing bonus and has a roster bonus of $750,000 due in 2007, and another roster bonus of $750,000 due in 2008. He also receives a $100,000 workout bonus in each season. Morris has a $2.125 million salary cap charge in 2007.

Evans received a two-year, $1.56 million package, according to NFL Players Association documents. Evans received a base salary of $595,000 in 2007 and $720,000 in 2008. His signing bonus was $250,000. Evans' salary cap hit for 2007 is $720,000.

Leaving the Pats with $9mm in cap space, order of magnitude, with a simple $18mm/5 guess for Welker.

Plenty of room for another receiver and linebacker, plus the draft picks.

And Asante's hit could drop if he is extended, opening more money if needed.
