Take Reuter's first round pick and Rang's second round pick and I'd be happy. Clayborn pick is horrible. Heyward has motor issues.

Im not really a fan of Aldon Smith, I just dont think he's ready for the NFL. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Maybin and I think he needs another year to develop. While he has a ton of potential, I wouldn't spend a top 40 pick on him. I think he would be better off staying in school another year developing at his own pace, rather than rushing the development process like Buffalo did with Maybin.

Reuter's draft is pretty bad. I'd take Hayward out of the two. But, with Warren coming back, I really don't see the need for two DE's in the first round. One DE and a RG is more like it.

Heyward at #17 (if he's even still there after everything shakes out)
Carimi at #32

Not necessarily advocating these guys, just saying that these two seem the most likely given the CBS choices.

Both have Dareus off the board by #5. Wow!

Aldon Smith is very raw but to compare him to Aaron Maybin is not fair.

I think that Reuter has Smith moving to OLB in the Pats 3-4 since he is only 256 lbs or so... That being said, I question whether or not Smith can make the switch from his hand down to starting up..

Why is the Clayborn pick horrible??

Why is the Clayborn pick horrible??

Because he's three inches shorter and 25 pounds lighter than ideal. He likely lacks the length required for the scheme, and I doubt there's a whole lot more room on his frame to add bulk.

There is ZERO room for him to add bulk. Chris Doyle (Iowa S&C coach) does an amazing job. If anything, Clayborn might shed a pound or three to resolve some motor issues late in games. He's a 4-3 guy.

I don't see Clayborn playing end either, but if he knocks off some weight, regains his speed/burst, then you have an OLB with Cunningham size.

He got bigger this past year and had to deal with lethargy playing at a size not ideal for his game. I think if he gets down to 270 or so then he could be the right guy for us. He's got violent hands (had to use that:), and is able to get in the backfield routinely.

Seems like a good pick.

Now they have

Rob Rang
17 J.J. Watt, DE
32 Gabe Carimi, OT

Chad Reuter
17 Aldon Smith, DE
32 Cameron Jordan, DE

Rang's is better than the other. I just don't care for Cam Jordan. He does nothing to suggest continued success at a higher level of play.

I'd rather take my chance on converting Clayborn, even with his character concerns. The guy is relentless and cares for the game. We'd have some serious emotion from our LB crew with Clayborn and Spikes offsetting the cooler Cunningham and Mayo.

Rang seems to have figured out that BB will not make a projection selection in the first round.

Reuter on the other hand is much like the neutered dog, he just doesn't get it.

I don't know if Carmini has the feet to play OT even on the right side, but the Wisconsin center Konz is really special and when he does come out, I would love to see him drafted by us.
