A mock draft with life or death consequences!

Well, more like my pride is on the line. This mock is for a competition among some friends and I want to win it all this year, so any comments would help.

1. Texans-Reggie Bush, RB: While I don’t completely agree with this pick, I do believe this is what they will end up doing. It is not a question of Bush’s talent, but rather with the Texans holes at other positions on the team. They will have 2 above average RB’s making a ton of money, but they will continue to struggle because they did not fill other more pressing needs.

2. Saints-Mario Williams, DE: Williams is an unbelievable talent that is going to bring an instant presence on a defense that needs to find some sort of identity. Williams should make the other players around him better and hopefully help some of those other guys live up to their potential

3. Titans-Vince Young, QB: Young is on the rebound after his stock slipped after the combine. I think Young’s game is more similar to McNair’s which should make for an easier transition for young and the team. A big arm and the potential to make plays with his feet, plus his long term potential might be greater than Leinart.

4. New York Jets-Matt Leinart, QB: Eric Mangini gets a quarterback that closely resembles his old QB Tom Brady. Leinart doesn’t have the strongest arm and is not very mobile, but he has good touch on the ball and good poise in the pocket, plus he just wins games.

5. Packers-A.J. Hawk, LB: The Packers have a lot of problems on their team, drafting Hawk will help alleviate one of those. Hawk will pair up with Barnett to create a young and talented LB corp. that should give that defense a boost.

6. S.F.-Vernon Davis, TE: Davis should help take off some of the pressure that Alex Smith will be feeling next season. He is a big, fast, freak that has great hands and breakaway speed. Should quickly become the niners top receiver and will be looked upon to help a dismal offense get better.

7. Raiders-Michael Huff, CB: I think if Vince Young is here, they will give a hard look to him. As it works out, Huff is not only the best player available on the defensive side of the ball, but he also fills a huge need for the Raiders. Huff can take Woodson’s spot and there should not be any drop off in production.

8. Buffalo-D’Brickshaw Ferguson, OT: Who would have guessed he would fall this far? The Bills get a gift here. Tackle is a big need for the Bills and they fill it with a potential lockdown left tackle that will give whoever the Bills quarterback some time to make plays.

9. Lions-Broderick Bunkley, DT: The Bills gift is the Lions good fortune. While Huff would probably be their pick of choice, Bunkley will be able to come in and give their defensive line the pass rush that has been sorely lacking for some time up in Detroit.

10. Cardinals- Jay Cutler, QB: Maybe he is this years Ben Rothlisberger? Some people have him is the highest rated QB while others think he is a little overrated. The Cardinals need a future replacement for Warner, and with Warner’s injury history, Cutler could be taking over sooner than expected. Sounds like the Steelers story all over again.

11. St. Louis-Jimmy Williams, CB/S: Williams stock has fluctuated because of some reports of attitude problems. This however, has never been an issue when it comes to the Rams. Williams has lots of talent and versatility and will be an instant upgrade to a fairly weak Rams secondary.

12. Cleveland-Haloti Ngata, DT: Ask and you shall receive. Romeo Crennel joked that Ngata was their #1 guy at the combine because they felt there was no way they would be able to get him. Oh how things can change so quickly. Ngata should fit in well into the 3-4 and will share time with the ageless Ted Washington.

13. Baltimore-Winston Justice, OT After a slow start to the season, Justice has moved up the boards after strong showings at the combine and workouts. Justice will fill a huge need on that line.

14. Philadelphia-Chad Jackson, WR: Philadelphia needs to get some offensive weapons for McNabb. Jackson’s stock has skyrocketed himself all the way to the 1st wide receiver taken. Jackson has good size and good speed and should help lessen the blow of losing TO.

15. Denver-Lawrence Maroney, RB: Tatum Bell is always hurt and Ron Dayne is a cheeseburger away from being out of the NFL. Maroney fits the Denver running system perfectly and should be a dominant back in that system for many years. I know Denver has had success with later round talent, but this fit is too good to pass up and the talent really is not there this year.

16. Miami-Donte Whitner, S: A little bit of a shock here. Whitner has really climbed the charts of late and could really be a special player in the nfl. Whitner is a safety that plays the run well and will help fill and need in Nick Sabans defense

17. Minnesota-Ernie Sims, OLB: Sims is a little undersized but you can’t dispute how he plays. Drawing comparisons to Derrick Brooks speaks volumes to how this guy plays the game. Sims fits into Minnesota new defensive scheme.

18. Dallas-Manny Lawson, DE/OLB: Lawson is another freak that can get to the QB. He has great size and speed and will team up nicely with last years first round pick Demarcus Ware. Parcells has finally put the type of players on the field that he really likes.

19. San Diego- Antonio Cromartie, CB: It has been said that if Cromartie did not get hurt, he has the talent to be a top 10 pick. What he has in talent he lacks in experience. Cromartie could be a steal of the draft in a few years or the big bust of round 1. Too much talent and potential to pass up.

20. Kansas City- Jonathon Joseph, CB: Joseph is one of the most fluctuating names on draft boards right now. I have seen him is high as 11 and as low as the middle or round 2. All the corners in this draft have question marks, but Joseph has nice size and speed as well as good technique. He will need to work on some parts of his game, but he could very well be a solid starter for years to come.

21. Patriots-Bobby Carpenter, LB: With the loss of Willie McGinest this offseason and the age of the remaining linebackers on the team, they decide to pass on all the runningbacks and hit another need. Carpenter seems to be a perfect fit for the Patriots, even drawing comparisons to Mike Vrabel. Carpenter has the ability to play inside or outside and would give the Patriots the flexibility it covets. Carpenter would be able to step in and play immediately, whereas a runningback would probably have a minimum impact this year.

22. San Fransisco- Cameron Wimbley, DE: Needless to say the Niners need a lot of help from the players they draft. Wimbley is a disruptive edge rusher who should be able to fill the void left by Petersons departure. This is a good start for the Niners, getting to playermakers that can make a difference immediately.

23. Buccaneers-Chad Greenway, LB: Greenways style of play fits in well with Tampa’s cover 2 defense. Greenway is good in coverage and can get sideline to sideline in a hurry. Needs to work on shedding blocks and his tackling, but should help bring some youth to the Bucs linebacker corp.

24. Bengals-Ty Hill, CB: The Bengals are a team that could make a serious run at the Super Bowl this year, and with this pick, that only helps their chances. Hill is probably the most polished of the corners in this years draft. The only concern with him is his height, but we have seen over the past couple of years that smaller corners can succeed. Look for Hill to make an immediate impact.

25. Giants- Jason Allen, S: Before Allen’s hip injury he could easily have gone in the top 15. Getting back into the first round is still an amazing accomplishment considering his injury. Allen showed everyone that he was back at the combine and if all his medical test clear him, he will be a great upgrade.

26. Bears-Santonio Holmes: The Bears just signed Manning away from the Panthers, so they have addressed one of their needs. A tight end could be an option as well, but there is better value in the 2nd. Holmes would give them a legitimate #2 receiver opposite Muhammed. Holmes still available at this point is very good value.

27. Carolina-Lendale White, RB: White has slipped a bit, but not out of the first round. Carolina likes to have a big bruiser to go with the often injured DeShaun Foster. If White can stay focused on football and play the way he did in college, Carolina will have a real steal here.

28. Jacksonville-DeAngelo Williams, RB: It is amazing how far players can fall. The Jags don’t mind at all. Williams is a good insurance policy for the often injured Fred Taylor. Williams possesses the same qualities as Taylor so he should fit into their system well and be ready to jump in full time when Taylor gets hurt or calls it quits.

29. Jets-Nick Mangold, C: The jets lost Pro Bowler Kevin Mawae in free agency and need to replace him badly. After Mangold, there is a dropoff in talent at the position. With the Saints picking before them in the second, they wisely take Mangold now.

30. Colts-Joseph Addai, RB: A few weeks ago it looked as though one of the big 3 may fall to the Colts and they would just pick up where they left off. That may not be the case any longer. Addai has slowly crept up the boards because of his impressive workout numbers. He catches the ball well and is a decent pass blocker. He is one of those guys who does a lot of things well, but nothing outstanding. He could excel though in the Colts scheme.

31. Seattle-Mathias Kiwanuka, DE: With Bryce Fisher penciled in as the starter right now, the Seahawks could definitely handle an upgrade at the position. Kiwanuka has shown flashes of being a pass rushing monster, but will have to become stronger and more consistent to become an every down player.

32. Steelers-Sinorice Moss, WR: Moss is a speedy receiver who will also be able to take over the duties that were previously held by Antwan Randal El. Moss could eventually become better than his brother and be more of a factor in the passing game than Randal El was.


Well there it is, I would appreciate as many comments, both good and bad, as I can possibly get.

Very solid draft, I like it alot. Raiders won't take Young, and finally people like you are coming to realize that. Bottom half of the mock (which most people really mess up on) you did very well on. But Vince Young will not go to the Titans 3, and that might really mix stuff up on your mock, unless Jets take Cutler, then it doesn't change as much.
