They're just putting it on film so future teams have something else to think about.
It's like playing poker. You don't want to make it obvious if you decide to call a fake in the future, so you call a bunch of fake-fakes so that the formation doesn't give the play away.
Plus if they don't...
I don't think Talib will be worth that much on the market. He was only worth a 4th round pick this year, and half a season of good behavior doesn't prove he's ready for big money. I doubt anyone invests that much in him
It requires experience, chemistry, and knowing the playbook. It's not as simple as "Let's just run a disguise on this play" when none of the guys can get on the same page. Every single ex-Pat who's played in this defense has said the same thing. Bruschi has said it multiple times in the last few...
Kareem Jackson is a first round pick who developed in his second and third years. How much of that was coaching, and how much of it was just a guy maturing into the league? McCourty and Cunningham are both playing better this year. Is that because of coaching, or because they just worked their...
Yeah, this is what people don't get. The Pats have been running more man coverage this year, and sometimes they've locked it down, and other times they've gotten beat for 40+ yard passing plays. They haven't shown any consistency in their ability to play man.
Source? I specifically remember Belichick screaming at the DBs to "play the d***** ball" during a game last year.
I think fans who've never played football hugely underestimate how hard it is to run full speed with a wide receiver and turn your head for the ball without losing track of him. You...
They don't run disguise defenses because they don't trust the players to execute them. It's that simple.
The Patriots ran disguises all the time during the Super Bowl years. They are in the scheme. It amazes me how much criticism coaches get from armchair scouts who never see them in practice...
All I have to say is that their biggest problem yesterday was poor tackling. It's worth noting that hey only practiced in pads once during the last two weeks.
I don't expect that to continue
rushing three and dropping into coverage actually worked on a few plays, but hey, it couldn't be that the players just suck
their tackling will get better, they only practiced once over the bye week
That defensive ypc stat is incredible. They're only allowin 3.5 ypc? If the young players in the secondary get it together, the defense could be very solid by the end of the season
Every year there's some game where the Patriots blitz a lot and have success against a weak oline, and every year some fans get convinced that they've "turned the corner" and are suddenly going to be a blitz-heavy defense.
It's not happening. Like our offense, the defense operates on gameplans...
Only time I ever got jet lag was on a flight from Seattle to DC (4-5 hours). Got home around 8:30 feeling pretty tired, went out around 9 and partied all night anyway. Felt fine the next day and I'm no NFL athlete.
The flight to London from NE isn't much longer than that if I understand...
Dowling was the same type of player in college, except he's bigger. He was out of football for a long time and he's struggling right now, but he has talent. Would love to see these two realize their potential.
Cutting Meriweather wasn't a mistake. The guy sucked and he had major attitude problems. This team is better off without him. He got benched in favor of a 3rd round rookie for the Bears, and he can't stay on the field for the Redskins. Our pass defense sucked with him and it sucks without him. I...
This is ridiculous. You have no idea what the coaches are teaching these guys.
The issue is that 1) Good DBs are hard to find for every team and 2) The Patriots are even worse at finding them than most other teams.
If you draft 9 times in the first two rounds and don't get any hits...
Have to agree with Rodney. Chung is a decent safety, but that's all. He's late on deep passes all the time, and he can't cover anyone one-on-one. He's good tackler... that's pretty much it.
He has 8 more weeks to prove us wrong... I hope he does
Not sure where all the doubt is coming from.. he's 35 and doesn't look like he's slowing down at all. Most QBs started playing worse around 32, and he's had some of his best seasons since then. Things might change in the next few years, but I see no reason to doubt him at this point
