I wonder if the Cyrus Jones pick says anything about Amendola's future on the team. Jones' punt return ability is a key part of people's evals of him.

I think Amendola and Cannon will be Kyle Arrington like cuts.

Cyrus Jones last year with Alabama:
36-76 (47.3%)
459 yards
6 TD allowed - 2 INT
9 Passes DEF
Gave up 10 or less yards in 6 games last yr.

Cyrus Jones vs WR's 6' - 6'3''
17-40 (42.5%)
251 yards 4TD - 2 INT
4 passes defended

Cyrus Jones vs WR's 6'4''+
6-15 (40%) 83 yards 1 TD -
5 passes defended

This makes me mindful of a BB quote.... found in "War Room"...

“In the second round you find a lot of players with first-round talent but not first-round performance or production,The highest bust factor is in the second.”

True and all, but I don't see bust associated with Jones. I watched him at Alabama and he has a ton of drive and determination. What I noticed was that he never made the same mistake twice.he took coaching very well, and never placed himself ahead of the team.
.
The one thing that will help him with New England is that Coach Saban ran basically the same system that the Patriots run, so the learning curve will be a bit easier. The main problem for him will be the same one for all rookies: adapting to the faster speed of the game in the NFL.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do here.

That 4th is next year. So we get to live it again a little bit a year from now again.
Watch NFL.com come out with a fourth round mock draft just to degrade us...

Neither do I, overall I think the draft is a gigantic crap shoot there are some winners, but just as many losers..

By tomorrow morning pundits will be earning their pay by posting "Draft Winners and Losers".. this thing has turned into some kind of very expensive cottage industry.. maybe Draft Kings can develop some sort of game in 2017....

Todd McShay called him the most improved CB of the last three years.

Thanks, Atomic. But those numbers aren't necessarily indicative of how he plays at the NFL level. I'm excited still for anyone NE picks until or unless they don't pan out. The two guys we got from Alabama programs (High and Butler) have worked out pretty well. :)

No problem, and they aren't meant to be. For myself though, the hidden meaning is size from CBs being the most overblown thing ever. It's all about fluidity, change of direction and the Grey matter.

This guy looks promising. Converted to CB in 2013, he has improved every year, and played through injury. What is not to like about this guy? Oh and he can return punts, something the Patriots absoltuely need.

I love the pick. Patriots now have a true back up CB, a nickel corner, and insurance for guys leaving.

we literally have one of the best punt returners in the game already on the roster. I like what Jones brings as a returner but unless his ball security is fixed by the time the season begins he shouldn't leap JE.

I love Jules as a punt returner, but it is risky to have him play so many snaps.

How often did JE return punts last year. It seemed like Amendola took on the job full-time. Just checked. It was Julian's lowest number of punt returns since his rookie year (10).

He missed 9 games . With that said they may want to lighten his workload.

Nick Caserio and the science of drafting Alabama players

"There’s a lot of different scenarios that we talk through at the time as we were working across, there were some different players who were graded equally,” said Nick Caserio, the Patriots director of player development. “I think the thing that tipped the scales in Cyrus’ favor a little bit was his overall versatility – punt return – that’s a huge component of what we do and we thought he had the ability."

... we’ll see where he can actually play, in terms of corner. He played primarily on the perimeter at Alabama.

I am not impressed, this guy doesn't stand out, we shall see how he does in pre season.

I like this pick, but the highlights are mostly of him returning kicks, not in coverage.

He is tough and feisty and, very important, he has good hands. Hands on a CB are very important; it make it risky to throw against him. Once he gets his hands on the ball, he is a threat to go all the way. Even if he occasionally gets beat, his hands can turn around a game, as we, ahem, know oh so well.

We drafted another short, nickel corner?

I guess we really needed an Arrington replacement, and BB thinks this guy is it?

Rated for the 4th round. Hopefully this is a wonder-reach pick ala Vollmer instead of a bang head on the wall reach like Terrence Wheatley, Ras-I Dowling, or Tavon Wilson.

It depends on where you look. The only draft analyst I pay any attention to is Mike Manock, and he had Cyrus Jones ranked as the 41st best prospect in the draft, and we got him at 60, good value. I watched him at Alabama, and I love the pick, he was probably my primary draft binky. He isn't real tall but he is very solidly built and absolutely tough as nails. Fantastic tackler, and absolutely top notch run defender. A converted receiver, great ball skills. Great heart, and always wanted to take on the opponents best receiver. Defensive MVP in the semifinal Championship game against Michigan State. A real leader on the 2015 National Championship Alabama team. Love, love, love the pick.
