Re the Gronk contract situation. Didn't the Pats bump Vollmer once?

Contracts only are a contract when we're talking about the player. The team can cut him any moment they want but the player has to 'live up to the contract he signed' and 'be true to his word'.

It's such ********. If Gronk wants more money he's worth it, even if it hampers our plans this year or next.

That's ********. The contract says in black and white the player can be cut at the team's option and the player knows that going in.

Also, there is no rule whatsoever against getting a fully-guaranteed contract. However, players would rather have bigger $ in the contract and hope they don't get cut than take less but have the contract be fully-guaranteed.

Screw the players who whine about it. If they care that much, take less and get the contract fully-guaranteed.

In regards to vollmer, the pats were starting to implement more switching of tackles to get cannon on the field and vollmer (rightfully) didn't want to be punished for the coaches trying to build more rest in for players.

So, in good faith the pats guaranteed the bonus money on lower playing time to show that they weren't trying to take money out of his pocket, but trying to keep the team as healthy as possible.

I am not sure if there is much correlation between vollmer and gronk's situations.

There is no correlation. Completely different drivers.

Gronk was ****ing joking around. No problem. How are people misreading his tweet. He essentially stated he does it for his love of working out and football, not money.

Oh, he's the one who doesn't care about money. Never mind, then.

Just throwing it out there. Would agree that he should just honor his deal except, one he is an all time great, I want him for life, and, teams don't really honor their contracts.

Well the problem is the media is going with the notion that there is some truth to it even if he was joking and now that Rosenhaus had a chance to say there are no problems and instead gave a "no comment", coupled with Pats trading for a #1 TE will only make the mediots think they have something with the "Gronk is not happy with his contract" stuff

Yeah, the silly media would see those three things and think something's up.

How about Ninkovich?

The New England Patriots’ starting left defensive end was set to earn $2.45 million in 2015, and now his salary has been increased to $5 million with $4.5 million fully guaranteed, ESPN’s Adam Caplan and Mike Reiss reported Wednesday. Ninkovich was scheduled to pull in a $2.1 million base salary with a $250,000 roster bonus and $100,000 workout bonus. He had a $3.95 million salary cap hit.

screw gronk. he shouldn't have signed the contract he has now. nothing pisses me off more than rich people crying about there contract.
Absolutely ... he has 4 years on the contract ... Gordy can go pound sand.

demand a raise...nobody should want to take a paycut for our jellyfish owner kraft. **** him
If you were a real man of priciple you wouldn't watch and follow a team owned by said jellyfish and ***** about him on a site dedicated to the team he owns.

You should change your name to Ironski.

well douchebag felger just said on csnne Gronk is 100% unhappy with his contract. So that's that..

Ya absolute joke if him or Rosenhaus are getting in Gronk's ear. They were all for him signing the "largest deal for a TE ever" deal at the time 2 years into his rookie deal after he had the greatest season ever by a TE. Not to mention Pats just paid Gronk $15m for this past season

Gronk wasn't really an injury risk when he signed that contract, he'd play in every game of his career to that point. Also, we should probably not call Gronk a **** and a rich ******* based on a somewhat vague tweet. Rosenhaus had no incentive to answer that question, meaningless speculation. If for some reason he decides to hold out later it'd be dumb to rule it out right now. So best answer was to brush it off.

Good money but I can understand him getting frustrated when he sees average players making much much more. Recent contracts and free agency periods have exploded expectations and really complicate future deals. I don't see why agents would tell players to sign for good deal's when there it's outrageous money to be had.

Where do you get that he's frustrated? His tweet was dripping with sarcasm..
Furthermore, which TE has gotten a contract that surpasses Gronks..

I have no ideas whether he is frustrated or not, I simply said I could understand it if he is. And I said average players, not tight ends, and yes Marvin Jones just got a great big deal and he's an average player. Gronk would get huge money on the open market and he knows it.

If you really want an argument that bad I'm sure Andy Johnson is around here somewhere.

Gronk would get huge money on the open market and he knows it.

But he can't sit there and sign the biggest contract for a TE 2 years into his rookie deal 3 years ago and be frustrated because what other guys are getting. Gronk, Gordie and Rosenhaus were all satisfied with the deal because they agreed to it.
