Michael McCann has been teaching a class on framegate. He has many guest speakers in. Today it is MIT Professor John Leonard who stated "The Patriots footballs matched the Ideal Gas Law. We should be asking about Colts footballs" and "Incredibly regrettable the NFL didn't share the data--that contributed to the media frenzy. Full presentation at http://people.csail.mit.edu/jleonard/20150926_deflategate_for_2.05_thermo.pdf

"Why would Tom Brady jeopardize his legacy over a tiny bit of air?" @MIT Professor John Leonard @UofNH Deflategate.

Yes, but Troy Vincent had never heard of the Ideal Gas Law. Using a law of physics as an alibi gets you a 4 game suspension, the loss of a 1st and a 4th, and a fine of one million smackeroos!

On the other hand, ignoring Mother Nature gets you a trip to the Karma woodshed.

Isn't it about time for someone with an impeccable reputation to come out with an expose, filled with facts and blow this thing up already??

It has to be sensational enough to grab the attention of the same idiots that felt compelled to label the Patriots as the diabolical cheating deflators in the first place.

And as I like to bring up in many threads, the people at Your Team Cheats - The Definitive Guide to NFL Cheating pretty much dismissed the whole scenario after doing their own objective investigation. What is incredibly ironic is that the three teams that get on the Pats for supposed cheating the most (i.e. BAL, IND, NYJ) all have much higher cheating indexes; have been involved in more serious stuff and more of it. And this brings us to the slight-of-hand bit...look at them; what they are doing...and not us.

It's no longer about PSI in Footballs, as Roger Goodell has admitted. It's about his unbridled lust for power.

And this becomes more obvious to people outside of New England every day. Things like this help. You have an MIT Prof saying 100% innocent while Brady and Gostkowski are playing lights out.

I really need to stop reading this stuff because every time I do I feel the inner tempest redlining over the theft of a first round draft pick. It's one of if not the most unjust thing I can recall in sports.

Set-up>
>incompetence
>evidence to innocence
>disinformation campaign
>disregard of said evidence
>1st rounder because f-you we can
>Kraft goatse'ing to his puppet thereby defeating the entire purpose of installing a puppet
>continuation of proof that this entire thing was orchestrated by Grigson.

This entire thing is completely insane and will impact the Pats for the next five years.

All the haters have left as ammo is the text messages, which they will of course use to say is 100% proof of cheating.

Although the fact that this post will probably get a few angry old guys to google goatse does alleviate a lot of the pain.

I have read a lot about the science but haven’t noticed the answer to a question I’ve had related to the time factor:

How long does it take a football to lose 1 PSI of air pressure when it is moved from 70 to 40 degrees?

Then how long does it take for it to regain 1 PSI when it goes from 40 back to 70?

Given that the Colts footballs gained about 0.5 PSI when they equilibrated to a higher temperature at halftime, I wouldn’t expected that gain in air pressure to take too long, ~5-10 minutes. But does the initial pressure loss happen at the same rate? The Ideal Gas Law equation has no time component.

I realize this doesn’t account for the actual game conditions; rain, balls being in play vs on the sideline, the unknown pressure of the Colts footballs to begin with, the stupid different gauges, etc. I’m more curious from a theoretical point of view. It was probably addressed in the UNH class and other places. Exponent tried to address it in the Wells Report appendix but I don’t believe anything they say.

Question for Goodell: "It seems unlikely that an MIT Professor would risk his reputation in the scientific community by getting simple equations wrong; He believes the Patriots balls were within the expected range. He also believes Exponent used the wrong equations. Have you asked any other independent, competent scientist to confirm Exponents findings as both the particular findings and the firm's reputation have been questioned by multiple sources"
