Updated: Judge Tells Brady No Need To Attend 8/19 Settlement Hearing

Schefter just said on Sportscenter that Brady was willing to accept a partial suspension for obstruction only with no admission of guilt, the the NFL was not interested in that concession. That won't look good to Berman. I've never heard of a party being forced to admit guilt as part of a settlement...

If this is true than Berman has to rule against the NFL. They are spitting in his face by refusing to bend even a little bit in an effort to settle. Meanwhile Brady seems to be offering a lot.

As per Zolak NFL still insisting on Brady accepting the Validty of Well's report, this today, Brady leaves goes to WV.

Just pissed that brady would make even offer for that.

Bet this is NFL spin, reports fron Brady camp no suspension but required Brady accept Well's report.

Hope Berman nukes NFL and vacates tomorrow, have clerks write opinion tonight.

I dont think its necessarily true that the judge has to rule in favor of NFL because of this.He may admonish the NFL but still rule the way he feels. Has happened before with him albeit in a jury trial which is different during a tommy lee case
http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/08/06/deflategate-judge-richard-berman/

In April 2001, Berman demonstrated his distaste for lawyers wasting the time of the court and jurors after a record company in a claim against former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee settled with a Swedish man just as a jury reached a verdict. Berman instructed the jury to reveal its verdict in Lee’s favor, prompting the drummer who had argued against settling to curse his lawyers and yell “Idiot!”

I certainly hope that's not true.

NFL is desperate to get him to accept Wells report ....

So my guess is they are seriously fearing a long and protracted defamation lawsuit????

I don't like the sound of a reduced suspension at all. Surprised that they even offered such a concession given the leagues behavior.

At the same time if the league didn't even budge on that time of settlement offer then you have to think that looks very bad on their part to Judge Berman. Not saying it will impact the decision but it's possible.

I agree but given Brady's team first attitude it would not surprise me ... he's extremely unselfish to the team.
I bet all the veteran players on the team are telling him to go the distance ...

If that's their concern, they could just have him agree to waive the defamation claim.

It could be that Tom's legal team advised him to offer that knowing that the league was not likely to accept the deal. This puts his side in the position of being the only one that actually offered anything in the settlement discussion.

NFL secret evidence? Yea maybe if they inflated balls before game to 16 , so they know they lost 5 psi. which would mean a sting, refs involved, NFL involved, lying, damaging the integrity of the game, the outcome, and of course they could never admit that. And it still wouldn't implicate Brady . They got nothing but the CBA, now gfu godell.

It may be partially that...however, I think Goodell wants it to be on record that he didn't waste millions of dollars on an investigation which is eventually universally discredited. I also believe it makes it easier for owners to keep him if he gets Brady to accept the results. Goodell is essentially seeking vindication of his "investigation."

And maybe Bob is telling him to do what is best for the team ?

By accepting a suspension for obstruction, he is showing good faith in settling. I think this is calculated b/c Kessler knows damn well that is unacceptable for the NFL.

Thats my guess. Strategic move by Kessler to show Berman his client is trying.
