This will never happen because the union is not strong enough, hell the union still hasn't explained to the players how Tom Brady being railroaded is bad for them.
But with a stronger union the real scorched earth approach would be a walkout. Walkout under the conditions that Brady's penalty is abolished and Goodell relinquishes the right to arbitrate his own decisions.
That is actually what should happen, but the union does not have the strength to do it.

I don't know what contract law is like in America, but couldn't the NFLPA opt out of the CBA citing a breach of contract by the league and go straight into a strike?

I think a walkout is inevitable. Maybe not now but definitely during the next CBA talks.

My point is a walkout TODAY, threatening the start of the season. The owners always have the upperhand because they can go without income longer than players, but losing the start of the season, at the 11th hour, could easily cause them to cave, and fire Goodell.

If the Union wants to win they need to hire one man. Donald Fehr
As a kid I hated Fehr b/c I blamed the union for baseballs problems in 1981 but now I kinda respect what he was trying to accomplish.

Fehr is a bad man.

I think that would potentially be a disaster and could possibly lead to Vincent losing his job as well. I don't think players get paid during the off season so I would suspect that many bank accounts are running on fumes. Although I agree with the pressure it would put on the owners, it would be similar to going into battle without any food rations. A notice to the players to get their finances in order because ........etc etc would make more sense.

Just thinking out loud.

Yeah, the MLB union is by far the strongest, and it shows in their pay. I've got a lot of respect for the people who made that happen, and Fehr is high up on that list.

Smith's too. If its not about money then its off the radar-for now. Although Dee and Eric Winston have ratcheted up the tough talk on this issue...

Like I said, it won't happen, but with a strong union, it would be a real card to play.

Marvin Miller got it really going but Fehr is major muscle. He's already stopped shop in the NHL

I think it is already on the radar. It has to be. Given how much negative attention the last 3 or 4 "gates" have received the NFL has given the PA plenty of fodder to justify a lengthy hold out. I think Roger's future has already been decided.

If finances are presumably an issue at this point, walk out on week 16. Can goodell and abolish article 46 or we'll see you next year, maybe.

This will never happen. Too many broke players in the league who would never give up a game check over another player. Especially one that is probably richer than any other player in the league (given his wife's income). And yes I understand the issue is much larger than one player but most of the players in the league aren't thinking that far ahead or dont care. They just want what they can get now.

I'd love to see it happen. I'd miss football but anything to get rid of Goodell I'd support.

Next Negotiations at CBA I think its 2020 will have NFLPA goin in with guns blazin! I don't think Kraft can save'm this time. I can see PA holding out until changes are made especially 'if' Goodell* is still Comm. It would so cool if Brady is still playing by then.

yeah, these guys aren't givin' up $$ for brady, which is why they allowed goodell to be king in the first place.
nfl didn't put it on the table, and union wouldn't fight to get it on there.
guarantee De Smith didn't want to be bothered to fight for it, cuz he's not subject to nfl discipline, so he went back to membership and spun it as affecting only a handful, just stay out of trouble, look at this $$ we're getting, etc.
the intrinsic nature of these things is people tend to fight for the union when it benefits them, and you'll rarely find the majority sacrificing for the minority.

NFLPA is at a disadvantage because players can't live without the checks, so they give up everything just to get back on the field.
Kraft didn't save them, he put a prettier face on the buggering they received, thats all.

Won't live without the checks, the league minimum is still higher than what your average Joe makes in 8 years.

Totally agree with players needing a pay check but something has to give. Goodell* can't be Judge Jury Executioner and hand these issues over to his Goons* who are supposed to be impartial but are just his puppets. He himself is a joke when it comes to Integrity. Kraft did have alot to do with them settling and playing even Jeff Saturday ( a Colt no less) was impressed how Kraft worked both sides to get it done.
