Cam Newton contract extension imminent

As exciting as it is to see teams go to cap hell for marginal qb talent, remember there is no guarantee our next qb won't be money hungry.

Having one of the greatest of all time who also happens to be ok being paid like a mediocre qb probably isn't something we should be taking for granted

We're kinda lucky Brady has a wife who can actually make more than he does. :)

He can buy a lot of towels with that contract

@RapSheet: My understanding on the imminent Cam Newton 5-year, more than $100M extension is full guarantees are very real. We wait for firm numbers

Wow, we'll wait and see, but the Seahawks may get screwed by this deal. Excellent.

Colts too!

That's a lot, but I actually think he is one of the better quarterbacks in the league. I've watched quite a few Panther games and he sees the field extremely well but his accuracy is still off. He consistently sails his passes but that may not be a problem with their recent additions of oversized receivers.

Agreed. Given the current and growing market the deal sounds about right. Just goes to show what a break we caught by Brady accepting his rate. Other teams have to pay out the ass for guys who are good but not close to tb12.

What in the world is Seattle doing?

I'm a little surprised that guys like Newton and Wilson are still healthy. They run too much.

@AdamSchefter: Cam Newton signed 5-year, $103.8 million extension, per source. Earns him $67.6 million in first three year. Deal... http://t.co/rfZEl3tXoT

@AdamSchefter: Cam Newton's new 5-year, $103.8 million deal also includes $60 million guaranteed, per source.

@AdamSchefter: Cam contract includes $22.5M signing bonus, $7.5M roster bonus due June 6, and $1M salary this season, paying Newton $31 million this year.

It's Quarterbacks money, it's pretty standard and it doesn't need to be a top guy, if it's a starter with skills to lead his team to the playoffs that's the ballpark. I think Newton has a lot of hype but he does have the tools to be one of the top QB's in the league when Brady and Manning retire. I just don't think he will ever win a SB, having the tools is just a part of the process.

This is where I don't understand the hate or lack of appreciation for Brady, especially from fans. 18th highest paid QB just won a superowl against a great defense and all some people are saying is he is old and should be replaced by the backup.

They only say TB12 is old and should be replaced because they want him GONE, OUT OF HERE, NO LONGER THE TERROR OF THE LEAGUE THAT HE IS!!! TB12 is the Greatest to ever play the game and he terrifies the fans of the 31. I love it!! GO PATS WIN #5 THIS YR.

This contract is HILARIOUS.

You could easily argue Kaepernick is better. He came damn close to winning the SuperBowl vs the Ravens and just barely fell short in the NFCCG the following year versus the Seahawks.

Plus, Kaep's 8-8 season last year with the 49ers was actually BETTER than Newton's 7-8-1. Kaepernick had better completion %, more TDs, less INTs.

Panthers got one of the luckiest playoff births of all time, followed by an even luckier matchup vs Ryan Lindely and the Cards who set a record for how bad they were on offense.

At best, Newton should've gotten the same contract as Kaepernick. Too bad Carolina management is desperate and overpaid like hell.
