Patriots Legal Counsel Rebuttal of Wells Report

Is it possible that the Patriots legal team knows more about this issue than some here? I know it sounds crazy but I am going to assume that the Patriots can afford a decent attorney and that this attorney gave his blessing on this response or even most likely ghost wrote it.

Is that possible?

No. :p

I think most people realize that and that avoiding conflict in todays society is probably the safe play. Too much crazy stuff out there. Also, the people who are looking for conflict aren't worth talking to to begin with. So, it works itself out. Those who chose to be loud about the Pats and rub our success in peoples faces deserve the backlash.

Yeah, pretty much. Most of my friends don't even know I'm a Pats fan, unless I've watched a game with them, they've overheard me talking about them during a FF draft or after a game or something, or they just assume it since I'm from Maine.

Likewise, maybe some of them want Brady to be publicly executed over Deflategate. I dunno - if so, they haven't told me, and I wouldn't really care if that was their opinion. Because that is an opinion that only an idiot would have, and I don't care about idiots' opinions.

So did this pubic release actually violate the terms of the NFL Constitution yes or no? I've seen conflicting things.

@smurfalarm @Charlotte Pats Fan @ANGR89 @BradyFTW! It's a difficult time being a Pats fan, especially outside of NE. You are now officially part of America's most isolated, and hated fanbase:

There's got to be an expression for something like this.....refusal to back down from Patriot pride despite being surrounded by haters...hmm....how bout' 'Brady Strong'? :p
Brady all he way.....I literally had someone get pissy with me at work today about the Patriots being cheaters, they hate Brady etc...I asked did you actually read either report, they said no....I said well than don't talk to me about it, it's people like you that are the problem, just going off the headlines! Screw the haters! :)

I don't really think Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, and Tom Brady are overly concerned about stepping on toes at the league office right now. I mean... boo hooo... they are saying mean things about Goodell. What's he going to do? Suspend Brady and take away a first round draft pick?

From before Deflategate was even a puff of air in an air pump (Jan 6, 2014) Tom Brady was voted the most hated QB.

I also imagine the Patriots would have polled as the most hated team at this point.

Of course this kind of preconceived "hate" is going to seriously color how people interpret the Wells Report and the Wells Report in Context.

Haters.

Maybe "Hate Gate" is a more accurate description of this current assault.

Love it, seriously though I haven't had anyone give me a hard time yet and I wear Pats T shirts 3 -4 times a week.

Only if the NFL admits that it wasn't an "independent" report. If it wants to maintain that charade, then NE is free to say whatever they want about it.

What? That's even less convincing than saying deflate is a euphemism for losing weight.

you must missed this part. part of their job is to deflate the football!

First, the report ignores the information the investigators gathered that Mr. Jastremski’s duties in football preparation in fact routinely involve deflating every football at least twice. Every team in the League has developed a standard operating procedure for the preparation of new footballs for game play....

Mr. Jastremski explained, is that the very first thing he routinely does when he opens a new box of Wilson footballs is to take a bit of air out of them.

Wow I'm a little surprised even Michigan is going for the multi-game suspension.

Yea I really thought its suburbs and UP counties would really put us over the 50.01% mark.:)

They could have been even less specific and said that it was a running joke correlating to their job of working with footballs. It had no more relevance to the events on the night of the AFC Championship Game then did the term dorito dink.

I don't understand what's so hard to grasp about all of that. One key point of this rebuttal was showing instances where Wells used messages out of context. In case of the deflator messages they were able to make the before-mentioned point and at the same time clear up the silly business that was going on under that moniker. It was essential to address that. What you are asking for is that they should have done the very same thing that everyone is criticizing Wells for: conveniently leaving out content to make it sound stronger (and less truthful).

again, they could've simply said deflating football is part of their job. how simple is that? issues addressed. no eyebrows raised.

But that is not what Dorito Dink and his friend the Deflator told when they were interviewed individually. You can't attack the credibility of a report if your rebuttal has the same flaws.

Grasping the whole "truth" thing seems beyond your present abilities.

more like grasping at straws. why is it so hard to understand that this won't help the case? truth or no truth, this just make us look really bad. make us really desperate.

The truth is a straw? No the truth is the truth especially if it can be substantiated.

Grasping at straws would be making something up out of the blue with no context to back it up. Worse might have been not addressing it at all which may have been suspicious.

Also, dont you think the Pats legal team did it for a reason?

they weren't under oath. they can change the narrative. weight loss argument killed the credibility of the entire report - that's the consensus verdict around the country. yeah, it's sad because everything else kicked ass.

Oh no! the country dosent like us more now. Like they would have actually been on our side if the deflator explication wasn't in there.

Seriously?

The truth is that it was used as a joke and the truth is that its the guys job to deflate balls for TB when he has gone ballistic that balls were overinflated. Simple.

You start cherry picking what you are going to say is the truth and your story starts tripping over itself with contradictions. See Tedd Wells.

If it was used in that context it was going to come out in discovery anyway. It was a focus point for the entire case if not THE focus point. Put the stuff in perspective with true story that nobody will deviate from.

I say New England secceeds and declares Tom Brady our president, Connecticut shall be divided, east and west.
Screw that I don't want term limits. Make him the King and start the Brady family dynasty.

this legal team didn't even fix the glaring typo. when anderson cooper or rachel nichols chuckle at 'weight loss' we have a major problem.
maybe they didn't think this through.

i can't get rid of the bad after taste. i think we went to far. the whole rebuttal had enough goodies. but one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. just very disappointing if you ask me.
