Can we talk about how bad this team is at drafting?

Those guys are all mediocre at best and Hoyer wasn't drafted. Oh and Hoyer and Mallet are on the same team.
Bill is so good he drafts/developes back up QBs and they become starters even if mediocre.

Hopefully that is a good sign for when he eventually has to shop for a new QB1.

Meh... we will see if they are actual starters.

How many teams whiff time and time again making QB selections at the top of the draft. NE's success is the furthest thing from "meh", it is downright remarkable.

Tom Brady
Rohan Davey
Kliff Kingsbury
Kevin O'Connell
Matt Cassell
Zac Robinson
Brian Hoyer
Ryan Mallett

Looks to me more like they got extremely lucky with one guy and the rest range from scrubs to borderline starters but closer to backups.

And that perception is the problem. Considering that only one of those guys were selected in the first two rounds, to get a HOFer, two middling starters (one who didn't even start in college) as well as another guy who looks like he'll be at least a viable backup is outstanding.

Matt Cassel was a 7th round pick and is entering his 11th season. He has started 71 games, and has made the Pro Bowl.

Brian Hoyer was a UDFA. He is entering his 7th season, and has started 17 games.

Whatever else, those 2 guys have vastly exceeded the average expectancy and production for where they were originally taken.

You forgot future HOFer Jimmy Garapolo. ;)

This is why I see every reason to be optimistic about JimmyG. NE's track record with QBs is extraordinary and Gops is clearly the one they like the best since Tom (of the guys acquired, of course).

Clearly?? We said that about Cassel... then Hoyer... then Mallett...

We did? A 7th rounder, a UDFA and a guy that didn't have nearly the optimism around him heading into his second year?

Unless I'm totally missing the point of your post, my earlier comment still stands.

How many teams have selected QB's since Cassell was selected in 2005 that aren't even IN the NFL anymore ?

Your Cincinnati Bengals since 1999 at QB in the draft...
2011 - Andy "The Daywalker" Dalton... Rd 2... been to 2 pro bowls, I guess he's okay :) (And in Rd 1 they picked Adriel Jeremiah Green, no less. But before that, at QB...
2007 - Jeff Rowe (5th round, obviously not a high-hopes prospect)
2003 - Carson Palmer. #1 #1. Decent for a while, then broke.
1999 - Akili Smith, nuff said

That's the length of Brady's career. This might help us understand what even decent drafts get you most of the time at QB. Rowe wasn't a serious attempt... but since the debacle that was Akili Smith, this team has drafted a guy who was good "By Bengals standards," then a guy who was good by any standards... except ours (and GB's, and Indy's... maybe 1 or 2 others.)

My point isn't "look how much these guys suck," since if anything they've got an okay record with those high picks at QB - just one whiff out of 3. They've also picked up their share of non-QB studs, but we're talking about the position, the one we have not had to draft for for years. Of course we still did... but you get the point. By the way, Cassel in NE? 11-5. Granted, he did have some weapons.

My point is "Holy crap we're spoiled." And I didn't even have to compare with the JESTs... just a pretty decent drafting franchise.

And yet they keep winning, so what's the issue?

I think the OP point was a tongue-in-cheek idea that we "know" the QBs in 5 of our 16 regular-season games next year... so that way the Pats will know all about what those teams will do against us, woo hoo.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that those teams will pose significant threats in the playoffs, and the Pats do have some success in the regular season, even without such a coincidence pertaining.
