Update - Dan Koppen is expected to miss 6-10 weeks

Not to mention if you release an injured player the Pats would be on the hook for an injury settlement... they would have to pay at least 8-10 weeks of his salary even if they released him tomorrow

Calvin Johnson is the best WR the secondary has faced yet

Reggie Wayne + Peyton Manning >>>>>> Calvin Johnson + Shaun Hill

What current players do our draft picks remind you of?

From what I hear of Taylor price, the whole situation brings to mind David Givens circa 2002. Similar size with very good measurables but mediocre college production blamed on poor QB play and scheme. BB clearly is trying to do the same thing with Gronkowski/Hernandez that he tried with...

OT: Chris Chambers cut by Chargers

According to Football Outsiders Chambers has consistently been among the worst starting WRs in the league for most of his career. He's a waste of money and a roster spot, even at veteran minimum.

Why did Davis not include conditions?

Do we know for a fact that the deal was not conditioned on Sey reporting? Very hard to tell what the truth is but it strikes me that just because the deal showed up on the NFL transactions report doesn't mean that it doesn't have any conditions.

    Gutierrez cut, Andrew Walter signed

Judging players from the Raiders is tough... their coaching is so bad that even decent players can look terrible.

How do draft "value" grades play out?

Agreed. On the flip side, I think teams like the raiders often grade out poorly on draft retrospectives because of poor player development as much as poor drafting. Players like Robert Gallery and Michael Huff may have been much more successful had they ended up on the Pats.

    Denver reportedly shopping Jarvis Moss

younger and cheaper... and much worse. You get what you pay for. A 24 year old crappy player is still a crappy player. If he can't play for Denver he can't play for us.

    Replacing Hobbs

Also, KR and PR demand very different skillsets, although there is some overlap. PR is all about (1) hands and ball security - you are often catching the ball in tight quarters, (2) decision-making (fair catch or no), and (3) short-area quickness. KR is all about speed, burst and vision...

    Replacing Hobbs

Maroney is the best option - he was a very good KR as a rookie and with the depth we have at RB there's no reason not to use him as a KR again. Also, I've never understood why people complain about using starters as special teamers - as if special teams plays are somehow "wasted" plays or...

Schefter: Cassel misunderstood what signing the tender meant

Re: Adam Schefter Cassel misunderstood what signing the tender meant In 2005 (?) the eagles withdrew a franchise tender on DT Corey Simon right around the start of training camp, making him a free agent. He signed a big-money deal with the Colts and subsequently bombed.

Why do so many people think Cassel was worth a first-rounder?

One other item to throw on the fire... believe it or not the 34th pick is actually worth more than the 3rd pick. See this link On the clock: Rationality — Behavioral biases in the NFL Draft Nudge blog This is a much better deal than many might think
  13. P

Have the Pats granted Cassel permission to seek trade?

This is true for a player that has not signed the franchise tender but is not correct in this case. Now that Cassel has signed the tender he is like any player under a one-year contract. He cannot have negotiate with other teams without the Patriots permission and he can be traded to anybody...
  14. P

Can Cassel be traded while the draft is ongoing?

Cassel can be traded at any time, with or without a long-term contract. The reason most franchise player trades have included a long-term contract is you cannot trade the player unless they are under contract - meaning they have to sign the tender. They are then traded and immediately sign an...

Are we going to lose Wilfork in his prime?

If 2010 is uncapped we can keep Cassel (if he isnt traded), Wilfork and Mankins without any extensions: Mankins will be an RFA (tendered at $2.5-$3 million) Cassel will also be an RFA, albeit with a $16 million tender The franchise tag could then be applied to Wilfork (tendered at $7-8...
