What is the rule with defensive holding in this situation? Didn't the NFL put in a rule that time can be restored for defensive holding so that it can't be used to burn time at the end of a game?
He may have been trying to hit with the shoulder who knows but the result was he speared him. It was unfortunate but with better form he could have made a hard tackle without the penalty.
Edit: my point on "targeting" was that I hate the name of the rule, makes it sound like there is intent...
I am Clemson alum so that sucked but you just can't use the crown like that, intentional or not. These are kids so I like the rule to protect them but I hate the word "targeting".
The ACC championship wasn't a big game? Anyway, Clemson had much worse problems than the quarterback last night. OL did not protect him and their defense was horrible.
Does anyone think playing fewer games gave OSU an advantage, less wear and tear from the season? Clemson just looked overmatched physically and speed-wise, which was surprising. If OSU manhandles Alabama I will be convinced that a 6 game season gave OSU a big advantage.
Exactly. They have something that is working pretty well. The proposed change is sure to give significant advantage in choosing to defend, since the team that starts out defending will have 4 downs if they need a matching score.
