Rich Hill Breaks Down Cyrus Jones

Great share. Hill does such a good job.

Hes another reason why I think Ryan will have a very challenging time keeping his starting job for all 16 games in 2016.

Depending on Jones' and Richards' development in the preseason, if Brown comes back and a UFA emerges they might even trade Ryan for a 4th or 5th rounder.

I've always thought Jones better suited playing on the outside so this article makes me happy. And I do think he has a chance to take that position sometime this year. However, I wouldn't be so quick to trade Ryan. For one, I don't think he'll net as much as you suggest - he's a decent outside guy/good slot guy in the last year of his contract. I doubt a fourth but could see a 5th. But why trade him? Depth at the position is crucial and he could be our best slot corner. Better to keep him for the year and get the compensation pick, a pick that might end up higher than a fifth, albeit a year later.

I'm not quick to trade him either. If there is an appropriate time to trade him it would be towards the end of the preseason. They still need a vet CB back there and Ryan is certainly that now.

I think Coleman is fine in slot coverage.

I like Coleman too, I just think it's risky to test our CB depth two years in a row. Personally I'd rather have the depth this year and a pick a year later.

I'd hate to trade Ryan, secondary along with o line seems to be the place where injuries rack up hard and fast. Let him play out the season barring a crazy offer that I can't see happening. Logan had a great season shutting down Thomas twice.

Certainly a reasonable approach....

Ryan was solid last year and I expect him to play at the same level if not improve a little in 2016.

He looks like a midget there but he is relentless.
He doesnt give much breathing space to receivers and thats more effective than hight.
And he just wants the ball. How I wish LaFell would have 1/3 of that.

All this was shown already on Day 2 highlights and to me he looked like the best Day 2 CB even without punt return. We'll just have to take a breath on some deep balls ... (Ravens, Steelers, Arizona)
I do look forward seeing him helping us against extended plays though (Seahawks, Broncos ...)

He's gotta be almost guaranteed to leave. Barring Malcolm getting away somehow, and he doesn't seem like a "gotta feed my family" kinda guy if you know what I mean. Think both Ryan and Harmon are on their way with some nice money next year.

You keep Ryan this year, I do think he will have his best year and leave in the FA but the contributions this year may be essential for a SB run.

Unless Roberts, C.Jones and J.Jones /C.LeBlanc show in camp they are better than Ryan they shouldn't be looking to trade him for something. He's a CB that has shown that he can play good in the Pats defense. Unless someone was offering a 2nd and they felt comfortable with Butler, Coleman, Roberts and C. Jones as their top 4 CB than i'd rather hang onto him for the season. Shouldn't just ship out a CB that has proved he can play good on the outside in this defense.

Especially one who's been durable.

Contract year! :D

I expect Ryan to have a good to great year and then leave via FA to some team that will pay him Vontae Davis money.. hopefully resulting in us getting a 4th round or so compensatory pick that are now tradeable

Not a bad outcome at all.

Agreed. You can never have too many CBs and it seems pointless to talk about dealing a good, solid CB in Ryan at this point. I don't get some Pats fans obsession with the need to chase good, solid CBs out of town. I just don't get it. We've seen it numerous times in this league and our team.

I will say, I am looking forward to hopefully seeing Coleman look solid again and see Roberts hopefully emerge.

Jonathan Jones intrigues the hell out of me with that 36" vertical leap.

That was a great break down. Kid looks like he has great ball skill. Love the aggression he brings to the position. Oh, and you can't have too many corners.

Well that's fairly average for a CB. His 4.3 speed isn't though.

Lots to like in this story on him. This story from his h.s. coach in particular seemed likely to resonate positively among the staff in One Patriot Place:

He was also a ruthless note taker over his four-year career. When Jones practiced on offense, he logged every pass thrown his way and whether he made the catch. As a cornerback, Jones charted the result of every target.

“That’s like bordering on almost insanity,” Poggi said. “That’s the kind of thing you need to be the best at what you’re doing. It’s a bright brilliance that separates those of us from being mundane or special. He has that brilliance.”

Why Patriots' Cyrus Jones makes impact wherever he roams
