“I was stepping up. When you fake that way and kind of get your head around, I felt that guy closing, so I stepped up and kind of leaned forward. My momentum kind of just took me down, I guess. I didn’t think that he had touched me. I told Emmanuel just to kind of be alert in case I fall down, get back up, to be uncovered.”

I heard the audio clip and this wasn't said tongue in cheek.

I was only joking when I fell down. (Sung to the Nationwide tune.)

he slid to avoid a hit, thus giving himself up. Play should have been dead at that point. Manning has done this multiple times in recent memory. It was obvious, not sure how the refs could miss it.

Would be really useful to see a compilation vid. Don't recall him doing this before.

Seems smart play on his part, just playing to the whistle.

Unlike the Steelers!

I'm just worried that a defender is going to jump on him in that situation and get called for a personal foul because the ref rules that he gave himself up and therefore didn't need to be touched down.

I don't think he's gotten back up before but it is now his standard practice to give himself up rather than take a hit if he sees shadows or hears footsteps. Everyone knows he does it and that's partly why he didn't get handchecked while he was down.

I think it's ridiculous for him to say he foresaw this happening and even anticipated the refs blowing the call.

Has there ever been an easier call of BS?

Ridiculous non-whistle. There was a half second where he clearly turtled. End of play.
not only turtled but feet slid forward...meaning a QB has given himself up. Of course he will say he slipped, but he's done this multiple times so track record is there.

Although I think it was a great move HGH* did realizing he wasn't touched it sets a bad precedent. Pass Rushers will be more aggressive to hitting QB's while they're down and end up getting 15 yard penalties for it. That doesn't seem fair when QB's can fake give themselves up.

As for touching the guy down. It's slower to do that than diving at the QB.

Manning has proven this year that at this stage of his career, he cannot play at high altitude. He only has 1 TD at Mile High this season.

I'm not surprised he has to resort to stuff like this.

Seriously?! That's freaking crazy.....

I see it as a heads-up play on his part, something if Brady did it we'd say was brilliant. Hats off to him for taking advantage of the situation when the chips were down.

Just touch the f*cker down and be done with it. If this is what he's resorting to . . . LMFAO.
Yeah but, you might get a flag for that. Props to Peyton for pulling it off though....that's the refs' job to blow the whistle.

it was a cheesy play and should have been called dead. Sets a horrible precedent. A QB slides down, play over..QB turtles to the ground, play should be over. Refs have to be more aware of what the guy is doing.

Not for touching him down. Hitting him, yes.

He also phoned Jamel Fleming and told him to watch out for Amendola blocking back after not waving for a fair catch.

Just be happy Pink Head did it against the Steelers first so it's on game tape.

Now Belichick watches the film, makes an announcement to the defense "Touch Pink Head lightly on the back if he gives himself up". Says something to the refs pre game "hey just so you know we are keeping an eye out for the Pink Head turtle strategy." Problem solved. This won't be an issue on Sunday.

Sounds like a porno.

Guaranteed Belichick is having them work on it this week: touch pink turtle head if he is down, if there is any doubt.

the problem is that someone might not be close enough to touch him right away if he slides down after feeling a bit if pressure. Like I said, sets a bad precedent. What if a pitt defender cleaned his clocked as manning was just starting to get up yesterday? Would there be any doubt it would have been a personal foul? He slid down, play over...but then he gets to get back up again and throw it when he realizes no one is actually close enough to touch him after he ridiculously folds after feeling just a tiny bit of pressure?
